Dear Toby

I can not even believe you would suggest legalizing marijuana. I taught my kids against drugs, and here you are trying to promote it.. shame on you! "hundreds of friends and family members" smoke an illegal substance? This is just totally insane to me! But you are right, people are drinking and driving and I wish there were stricker laws but we sure dont need to legalize marijuana and make the situation twice as bad!

Thank you all at Free Keene for your support of House Bill 92.

As a resident of New Hampshire, I find Representative Burridge’s response to Mr. Iselin’s letter extremely insulting. It’s bad enough the Mr. Burridge supports our nation’s failed, draconian, unconstitutional War on (some) Drugs, but to address one of his constituents as he did is beyond the pale.

I thank Pauly at Last Free Voice and the bloggers at Free Keene for bringing this to my attention. I just got finished writing a letter to four of the state’s newspapers (2 of the bigger papers and 2 local Keene papers). I considered writing to Mr. Burridge myself, but right now, I’m probably too angry to write a calm and collected letter.

I also considered writing to the three New Hampshire state representatives who sponsored House Bill 92, making them aware of the conduct of their colleague, but I decided against it, thinking that it might be a little underhanded to go behind Represenative Burridge’s back and tattle on him to his colleagues. However, should any of you wish to contact the sponsors of House Bill 92, here they are:

Charles Weed: cweed@keene.edu
Paul Ingbretson: paul.ingbretson@leg.state.nh.us
Steve Vaillancourt: steve.vaillancourt@leg.state.nh.us

Dear Rep. Burridge. Your younger brother removed himself from the gene pool. I hope the voters in NH remove you from office.

I have a bit of a hard time believing this letter. Could you post a copy? If it is legit, the content should not be too surprising; fear-mongering and veiled threats.

Btw, what were you doing encouraging these people in their pursuit of controlling people's lives? Addressing these people as if they truly had authority keeps them believing that they do. The only thing I can think to say to them is "Who are you to make such decisions for others?"

[...] Toby Iselin emailed his representative, Delmar Burridge, knowing full well that they disagreed on the issue. What Toby didn’t expect was a veiled threat that the police would be keeping an eye on him from then on. [...]

Unbelievable. If the rep feels strongly and has a personal experience on the issue, he's free to vote his conscience. But giving the names of constitutents to the police so they can be investigated/become snitches? That's unbelievable.

Although I'm not a NH resident, I called Delmar, unfortunately he wasn't there. I may try again later.

Ironically, a vote against this proposition is a vote to continue providing great initiative and untaxed profits for people just like the one who sold his brother that joint.
