Eminent Domain Public Hearing Reminder
On Monday March 19th Keene residents will be able to voice their opinions before Keene City Council on whether or not eminent domain should be used to forcibly take land from Tom Eaton to be used for the proposed roundabout at the Marlboro, Winchester, and Main Street intersection. The public hearing will start at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
Many council members seem to think they have the right to do whatever they want so long as the “public good†is kept in mind. In this case, what is deemed best for the public will cost tax payers over $4 million and involve taking private property to build a roundabout many Keene residents do not agree with.
It is important that concerned individuals attend the public hearing this Monday to oppose the forcible taking of private property. While I am personally partial to roundabouts, this particular roundabout not only involves theft, but also a ridiculously high and rising price-tag Keene residents will see on their tax bills for years to come.
