Marijuana Decriminalization Action Alert

Filed under: Activism, Corruption, Hypocrisy, Issues, Police — Ian at 9:35 pm on Sunday, February 17, 2008

PotIf you would like to beg some politicians to act in a sane manner, here’s what you can do:

The full NH House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee will vote an up-or-down recommendation on marijuana decriminalization as early as THIS TUESDAY.

This bill has a decent shot of passing, if there is a public outpouring in favor of it.
The number of emails from New Hampshire residents in favor of the bill will make all the difference.

(Only) if you live in New Hampshire, PLEASE take one minute of your time RIGHT NOW!

1) Copy-and-paste the email addresses of the Committee members into an email
You can go ahead and simply use the “To:” field.

2) Write a short email asking the committee to support HB1623, reducing penalties for possession of marijuana
The mail should be short and courteous. A example is below; please use your own words, or at least add or remove a few sentences from the sample below.

Please support HB 1623.

The current penalties for simple possession of small quantities of marijuana do not fit the crime. This bill does not make marijuana legal. It does not legalize driving under the influence of drugs. It does ensure that small-time users will not face permanent criminal records. It does ensure that otherwise good students will not lose their education grants as a result of a minor experiment.

Marijuana is not as addictive as alcohol, and certainly we know harsh punishment did not solve the nation’s alcohol problems.

It does not make sense for our state to spend any money putting these people in jail. We can’t afford it and they don’t deserve it.

Thank you.

3) Include your full name, and the city of town you live in

4) Hit “send” Smiley

I sure hope the committee votes in favor of this. This is the beginning of the road to equality.

Why should the cannabis culture be persecuted for using their choice of substance? People that consume alcohol aren’t denied financial aid because of using it. People that drink liquor don’t have to fear arrest everyday. People who smoke tobacco have to worry about getting pulled over and arrested for possession of tobacco.

And we all know tobacco and alcohol are clearly more harmful than cannabis. So why the hypocrisy?
