What Battlestar Galactica means for the liberty movement and you.

BSGI had originally intended this as a forum post, but thought the message was a little more deserving of a wider audience, so I’d like to share my thoughts on the Battlestar Galactica finale and what it means for the liberty movement, and you specifically. Below the post, I’m including the final scene of the series finale of SciFi’s re-imagining of Battlestar Galactica, for those who haven’t seen it. BSG is a show that in over four seasons told the story of the near extinction of mankind at the hands of the machines they created, the Cylons. In the finale, an alliance of human-friendly Cylons and humans makes a stand against the vindictive anti-human Cylons and one Cylon’s choice has drastic consequences. Here are my reflections on what Battlestar Galactica meant to me, and they do include a spoiler: Read more

Dozens Attend FSP Recruitment Award Ceremony for Judge Burke

During this week’s Social Sundays, (attended by a record 32 liberty activists) a couple dozen people set out across Central Sq. to the front of the city building for an award ceremony honoring Judge Edward Burke of the Keene District Court. Activists decided to give the first ever Free State Project Recruitment Award to Burke because according to videographer Lauren Canario, “[Burke] has recruited more liberty-loving people to the Free State Project in a shorter time than ever recorded. His public outburst of rage at Ian Freeman for taking too long to sit followed by a 93 day jail sentence for having a couch in his yard convinced at least 8 people to fight tyranny sooner rather than later.”

After a speech from inspired new mover Yadra Voat, the award was accepted by Free Keene Blogger AnarchoJesse in Burke’s absence. See both the speech and acceptance comments in this video:

FreeKeene’s Patrick and Sam Speak to City Council

On Thursday, March 19, 2009, Patrick Shields and Sam Dodson spoke to the city council regarding property taxes. While counselors may not have agreed with the words coming out of their mouths, there was no doubt that some were impressed with the forethought and planning that each put into his speech. At least 2 city counselors approached Patrick after the meeting and encouraged him to become even more involved in the city political system.

I think it is time that FreeKeene.com hold these people responsible for the votes they make, and make sure they feel the pressure from those of us that care about personal freedom in Keene. Hopefully this is only the beginning of our adventures getting to know the good and the bad going on in the council chambers.

The Keene Sentinel Reports on Liberty Activism

PotIt looks like the Keene Sentinel has finally picked up on some of the freedom activism that is going on in Keene. As has been reported here, several liberty lovers have been putting change in expired parking meters so motorists avoid getting ticketed.

‘Merry Men’ save those in danger of fines

Locals calling themselves modern-day Robin Hoods are taking to the streets of Keene to save drivers from city parking fines.

White envelopes from the Robin Hood Parking Meter Fund began appearing on vehicle windshields in mid-February.

An accompanying note reads:

“Dear Motorist, You have crossed paths with Robin Hood. Your parking meter ran out of time, but my merry men remedied the situation with additional coins. May your future travels be uninterrupted by the Crown of Keene and his many sheriffs.”

Internet postings indicate that members of the Free State movement are behind the effort to save drivers from potential parking fines. Read the full article.
