Sam’s Jail Blog: Tuesday, April 28

Tuesday, April 28:
Pot
Today at breakfast we were only given one half cup of milk today instead of the usual two. Given that milk is all I’m drinking, and I did my full set of stretches along with 2/3 of a yoga workout, my body needed it. One of the other prisoners named Brandon is lactose intolerant, and breakfast was was two pieces of burnt toast and dry cereal that resembled Froot Loops. When Brandon asked how he was supposed to eat that, the guard told him to use water. They were out of the substitute as well.

Apparently the quantity and quality of the food here is getting cut back year after year. I’ve seen about 5 decent looking meals in the two weeks I’ve been held prisoners. They company that provides it rarely delivers enough meals, and the guards have to go back and argue with them for more food. Of course the guards regularly walk by with double the portions afforded their prisoners, perhaps that explains the potbellies many of them have. What did you expet from yet another government granted monopoly?

I’m sure a little digging would turn up yet another fat government contract, given to a bureaucrat’s friend. What will be done to fix it? Nothing. The only incentive the food company has is to jeep the quantity and quality above a level that would cause the prisoners to riot. Of course doing so would subject the prisoners to additional charges, increasing the government madnated sentences.

It’s a nice little check the government implemented to ensure compliance. Speak out against our mistreatment of you, our abuse of power, our poor living conditions, and we will subject you to more.

sounds like the food is worse than the last time I was there

Sam … seriously, eat something. You've got supporters. You're only hurting yourself.

I agree with Sam and his hunger strike. If I was thrown in jail, I'd not eat too. How would it look to see someone die in a place like that because they are jailed without charges, without access to a lawyer, and without committing an crime against another person?

It would look bad on the city of Keene if he dies there, and perhaps, just perhaps, it might bring a person or two or three to open their eyes and say, 'wait a minute, this system of violence only creates more violence, maybe we need to re-think this'. Course, I'm not holding my breath.

I hope he makes it out and well and keeps up with meditation and tries to maintain his body the best way he can.

    Full set of stretches? LOL.

That man needs meat and lots of it.

Brave Bastard, good luck to him for it.

And he meditates too. I can see that being helpful in jail. Helps keep your sanity and anger in check.

I have been in and out of jail since i was 13 and i support what you are doing. Ghandi talked about passive resistence, I have always been a wee bit more agro but to each his own. I think you would do more good works alive in place of the death trip. Jail food has always been horrible, dry and rotten. Living in Ca. and doing time here as a juveinile for stealing cars(got 14 years when i was 13) made me a lot more agressive and angry at society and the guards as well, they are evil. it only taught me to be a better criminal and to hate the world of oppression. As i grew older(33 now) I have softend up a bit but still need the freedom that was lost for so long. keep your head up and ***k those jailers.

In a way I feel for you, but in another way, I can't really lose too much sleep worrying about what inmates are eating.
