Ranger, I don’t remember who said it but there’s a quote: “There might be two libertarians that agree on everything, but I’m not one of them.”

Like all thing, we’re human and subject to the whims of human opinion. As long as we can agree that people should be free to do what they want so long as they don’t harm anyone else, then we’re on the right track.

I knew you had to be from the deep south. You seem to have more sanity and character than some of the nut cases I’ve read posting here. It’s my first time. I’ve never heard of these guys. I’m from the area in question and It made me bristle a little when I heard about this on FOX. It just seemed very out of character for this area to have a cop do something like they are describing. In fact, the last time I was stopped in Jones County (for running a stop sign off the I-59 exit ramp) the officer not only didn’t give me a ticket but requested that I pray for him at church that day! I’m serious! I was running late for church and told him so, but I was courteous and honest.

I actually consider myself a libertarian but only of the Biblical sort. You know there is a difference between true liberty and anarchy. Some people here don’t seem to know the difference or that there is a difference.

I thought these guys were from Canada and was wondering why they wouldn’t be worrying about taking issue there. Libertarian there is a buzz word for homosexual and I was suspicious that it might be here too.

Ranger, I doubt that fame-chasing is the case. If it’s the case then they’re taking a really round-about way of getting there because they’ve got a resume as long as your arm of activism in the liberty movement.

I don’t think that being a documentarian gives you special rights. I think that everyone has the right to record the police. In this country, that right is supposedly protected by the 1st Amendment. I also believe that people have an absolute right to arm themselves as is supposedly recognized in the 2nd Amendment, however even in a state like Mississippi there are more gun controls than I would like.

I know Pete is from Virginia. Not sure about Jason and Adam.

Since you’re interested, I’m from Alabama.

Actually, Mississippi comes in 22nd on personal freedom but 30th on economic freedom according to the recent Mercatus Center report on Freedom in the 50 States.

Yes Dan I know the difference. I don’t think being a documentarian gives you any special rights when you are stopped by the police. I don’t like either very much. You know what’s funny is that Mississippi is actually one of the most free states in the country in gun laws, worker rights, education and anything you can think of. But these bozo’s seem to want to paint us as the opposite. I think all this is grandstanding for the sake of publicity sothey can sell a stupid documentary and make money and be famous. where are these guys from anyhow?

Ranger, They’re going through a process to have the video restored using technical data recovery methods.

I’m pretty sure that you can see the difference in the government using surveillance to invade a person’s privacy and a group of documentarians or the press videoing the procedures of government agents.

I find it odd that the people who are always whining about being videotaped by “big brother” find it useful when it suits their purposes. As to who erased the video I can’t help but wonder if maybe these three guys erased it themselves because it was self incriminating.

Rob, I’m from Memphis and I’ve had plenty of experience with MS law enforcement. Perhaps they do have a “service mentality” when dealing with “suit-and-tie”, church-going, State-bowing Mississippians. But the fact is, if you’re young, black, or an outsider you’re very likely to be treated with disrespect or even violence. The fact that a law enforcement officer wouldn’t “knowingly” violate someone’s liberties is hardly a defense. They certainly wouldn’t give me the benefit of the doubt if I didn’t know all their silly rules about dry counties and traveling with firearms. Knowing the law and what citizen’s rights are is part of their fucking job. If they’re ignorant of the law or rights they should be retrained or fired. Ignorance of the law is no excuse, even for a law enforcement officer.
