    Feeding the bears also increases the bears’ familiarity with humans and decreases their tendency to avoid humans. It also associates humans with free food “in the bears’ minds”. Should the bear, years from now wander into town expecting food, it could be a danger to people. Not sure how far “Miles away” is, but animals move around. I would certainly not be for jail time, and outside the current system, I wouldn’t know how this could be discouraged, but bear-feeding-dude, I think, is wrong to do what he does.

    Any ideas how the market/free society would handle this? Perhaps give him an option for arbitration, then have those who believe that he’s “training the bears to associate humans with food” make their case… It’s a tough question. Any resulting bear attack years later would be impossible to pin on him…
