Journalist Sam Dodson who was arrested nearly two months ago for filming inside the Keene District Court lobby was released on from jail today and is in the studio for his first post jail interview.

    I\’m happy Sam is out.

    But I don\’t see a basis for his statement that the judge has no authority in the lobby, just because it is outside the actual courtroom. At least when court is in session, the space is occupied by court personnel (bailiff) and equipment (metal detector), performing administrative and security functions of the court. The space is just as much under the control of the court system as the courtroom itself.

    I think Curt is right, although perhaps Sam can provide the factual basis for his statement asserting the judge’s lack of authority in the lobby? And why does he believe the judge possesses authority in the actual courtroom?
