FYI, the debate of the moment was, 'Why are you such an asshole, Charlie?' Not, 'Why is Ian's voice annoying or not.' For someone as careful as you are with language, I'd have thought you could pick that out.

The idea that I would give you money to find out why you're such a dick is fascinating simply because it is so ludicrous.

Has anyone ever paid to know?

Focus on the debate, not the participant.

And then grow a pair and answer my questions
your questions about a participant. right.

the debate, dumbass from hell, is about this post. ian's voice is part of the post. i made a one-line comment about it, and the "focus" is morons like you talking about that comment. again, heal yourself.

pay me $50 and i'll answer every question you asked of me above.

I concede many of the points you make above, but also must assert that silence will not help me learn, else how would your criticism of my statements ever have existed?

I relish the opportunity to clarify my ideas and to steer away from contradictions.

Tell me, why is it that your approach is so unfriendly? Is there a method to what you are doing? I would think that many who are less patient than I am would not have even read all of what you posted above, knowing as I do that it would be such a high handed, snotty sort of delivery. It is insulting. Do you believe that insults are necessary to properly convey your ideas? Have you considered the idea that there may be a better way to persuade people?

To go back to the topic of the moment, I think that criticism of Ian's speech patterns could steer people away from listening to the content of his speech, and toward a shallow criticism of the sound of it. That was more or less the point I was driving at. I apologize for the contradictions, I'll watch that.

And you, Charlie? Some years from now, when my ideals and arguments are as well developed and honed as yours are and I am able to express myself logically without contradiction, I will still be a patient man with ears open to all, even you, and you will probably still be an asshole.

And who will be the better conduit for liberty then?

Sheesh. Ian has made that his voice from what I can tell.
if he had not, we would not be complaining about it. you are merely restating that ian's voice is affected. nice job! persuasive!
People can sound however they damn well please.
a worthy point only if someone had asserted they cannot. argument by blather.
Additionally, after one practices something like that for so long, it just becomes the way you sound.
"Additionally"? LOL
Think of other radio folk like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. Those guys always have that ‘radio host dj voice’ thing going on as well.
sucks just as hard. again, well "argued".
If you have a critique, state it openly. Dismissing the content of a man’s speech based on his delivery method [...]
that "quote" states it openly, just after, "That guy sure does make a lot of sense". in other words, you're full of shit on both counts.
Cowardly, and intellectually evasive, if not downright dishonest.
heal yourself.

your objection is based on a false premise — that ian's voice may not be criticized negatively. you presume, falsely of course, that for one to speak of ian's voice separate from his content necessarily merges it into a fallacious criticism of the content. again, you're full of crap. try silence, fanboy.

'That guy sure does make a lot of sense, but why does he make a voice like that?'

Sheesh. Ian has made that his voice from what I can tell. People can sound however they damn well please. Additionally, after one practices something like that for so long, it just becomes the way you sound. I listened to the first Free Talk Live once and Ian was, from a voice standpoint, virtually unrecognizable. Think of other radio folk like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. Those guys always have that 'radio host dj voice' thing going on as well.

If you have a critique, state it openly. Dismissing the content of a man's speech based on his delivery method reminds me a lot of what was done to Ron Paul last year on the campaign trail.

Cowardly, and intellectually evasive, if not downright dishonest.

Keep up the good work, Ian

BTW my brother-in-law won't listen to Ian because he doesn't like the voice, and sometimes it prickles me too when it gets way up high. The TEA party speech was a good one as far as that goes. So if I were to be a critic, I would only say watch the high pitched stuff, it puts the hair up on some people's necks.

"does ian ever not talk in a phony-FM-DJ voice? WTF."

Charley, the simple answer is: No. Ian is an entertainer-businessman of the small-calibre sort. The faux-content aspect - the endless cliches, buzz-phrases, tortured analogies, eye-rolling radio voice, etc. - is just the scaffolding for a product a small group of people are willing to buy and support. When you have to make a living, you do what you can with what you have.
