I think that's a great idea. There is no top down control, so nothing could be "required", but I'm sure if something like that were set up, and participation were encouraged, it could yield a lot of good results.

I know some have taken particularly loud individuals aside, but I think a more thorough, formal approach is a good idea -- especially as participation grows.

I see the importance of (and have participated in)acts of civil disobedience so my issue is not that... Rather, perhaps some of the young can be schooled... Like on the left where participants are required to take workshops and go through practice exercises. It can be quite a shock to the newbie to be "cuffed and stuffed" for the first time, or tear gased.

I don't agree with shouting others down. I hope those who have done so will be taken aside and spoken to by cooler heads. I certainly don't agree with eliciting fear.

I do support peaceful civil disobedience, however. I hope that those who join in for certain events - like the 420 event - can be convinced to be as polite as possible. It's easy to get angry at police, for example, when they are doing something that you see clearly as immoral and abusive. The better way is not to verbally lash out, however. I think Gandhi is a good model for this kind of civil disobedience. I think civil disobedience is most effective when the actions of the disobedient are perceived as most unimpeachable, and the actions taken in response are perceived as most outrageous. This makes the immorality of the law most obvious.

Of course, young people, or others, who are new to civil disobedience, may not have the knowledge or will power to choose to take this tack, and in the absence of a conscious choice, the natural reaction based on human nature is one of anger.

In short, if your criticism is of the civil disobedience itself, I do not agree. If your criticism is of the manner in which some have participated, then I agree, and hope those individuals will exhibit less anger in the future.

Your tactics make a mockery of those laboring in the fields to bring about change... Yes, those two city councilors could have stood by their votes... But beyond the middle class backlash which is the real fruit of the Free State labor in Central Square... The Keene city vote was an important message to send the governor and legislature... The defeat here may very well have reprecussions on the state level...On Oct 28th.

Why destory the good works of others?

What good has come from your drama in Central Square? From intimidating the Working Families Win group on Thursdays who also has a right to use the public square? What good comes from shouting down others?

Why elicit fear in people?

Why alienate the citizen majority?... You attract more flies with honey than vinegar.

Thanks for coming on here and commenting Steve, but if the council people are too cowardly to do what is right, or so petty as to deny sick people the medicine they need in order to stick it to activists of whom they don't personally approve, that's their moral deficiency.

The irrationality and abuse of the master is his own affair -- it cannot be blamed on the insufficient obsequiousness of the serf, who did not boot lick, stroke the master's ego, and beg for freedom politely enough. That's called blaming the victim.

If you want to take these tacks in order to beg for a little freedom, I certainly wish you success -- but you cannot blame those who are tired of begging for their failure to join you.

As the aforementioned mentioned "local politico" I was not so much angry over the dis-respect and bullying shown to those of us at "pro-govt healthcare demonstration."

Rather, I believe your tactics have been counterproductive. You have, I feel, sacrificed worthy projects, medical marijuana and marijuana decrim on your alter of abolishing all government.

Many people in this city, a respected former detective and the warden of the county jail among them, worked mightly for the city council to approve what you, for your long-range political agenda, wrecked in short order.

Well done!

Funny how when asked questions about things the city is doing, Cynthia suddenly doesn't know anything. She's supposed to be one responsible for running the city, but has no idea what's going on.

Wow, there isn't any semblance of kindness when these callers jump on to rip into FSers... then that councilor tops it off with his comment about how he still tries to run the life if his 22 year old daughter for the sake of his political clout....

At least this clip isn't riddled with snark and hate like the last one...
