If LEAP was to be seen as a group which encourages police officers to not do their jobs, their on-duty members could be fired or forced to quit LEAP. You are more American than many of your fellow(and "sister"???)officers. I've read about you on here, and through other links...I'm also a LEAP member. Rick Van Wicklers' talk convinced me. I think one problem is this: I can see where we're at with the "WAR on (some)Drugs(sometimes...)", and I can see how a decrim/legalization scheme that would work much better than what we've got now, but I can't see how to get from "here", to "there". Only one step at a time. But we will never get there, if we don't start. You, Brad, have every right to be a LEAP member, and advocate such, when you're not on duty. I also believe that you have every right to speak out *AS A COP*, provided you don't claim to speak for the department. DUH!?, huh?...I know you know that! Having differing opinions is part of America. I also believe that you have far more support in the uniforms, than you know. Too many guys are just plain afraid to speak out. I'm glad you do. And please show this to your Chief. I want him to know that there are many people who are otherwise law-abiding citizens, who just so happen to like to smoke weed. We don't want violence, or robbery, or crimes like that. We just want what everybody wants. To be happy, & live a good life. I'm sorry that your bosses have to make such a big deal out of what should be just a small thing. No, I have no desire to take illegal drugs, even if they were legalized. But, you can't make weed *more illegal* than it is now, or has been since I first smoked it. Never stopped me, or anybody else. But it does decrease respect for Law Enforcement, when people like your bosses try to silence you, and infringe on your Constitutionally-protected rights to express your opinions.
