Logic of Opposing The FSP/Liberty Movement

I know there are quite a few Free Keene readers who are reading this not because of their participation or belief in the movement towards a society that respects individual freedom, but because they want to keep tabs on what we’re doing and saying.  I want to make sure those of you who disagree with our positions correctly understand where your opposition leaves you.

While reading the comment section of the article “Dependence Day” that I referenced in my news update blog I came across the following comment:

“These folks get it; they’re great Americans who understand what America is supposed to be.

- Kevin, Lancaster.”

And yet Kevin from Lancaster, when former Gov. Benson spoke about the free state movement, we, the people, voted him out of office and only gave him one term. In today’s world, our government builds high fences to keep people out, to impose laws that subject us to do as they (government) say to do. As it is in Manchester, apathy is alive and well in this city as it is in our state of New Hampshire. The majority has choosen NOT to come out and vote in state, local or national elections and thus our government is run by those who wish to impose improper laws upon us. They have forgotten what the Forth of July means to those WHO do vote. It’s time to vote Repubilcans, those who understand what this country and our states were founded on. Time to show independance on November 2nd, 2010.

- Robert M Tarr, Manchester

In response to Robert’s response to Kevin…  I posted the following:

Robert M. Tarr from Manchester:

The Free State Project is an organization of individuals who stand in opposition to government tyranny.

Judging by your post, you stand in opposition to the Free State Project.

Logically, where would standing against an organization of people standing against tyranny leave you in support of?

(Thank you for using your real name, by the way. So few people have the courage here to actually do that. It’s real easy to talk big when you’re hiding behind anonymity.)

Logically, if one stands against a group of people opposing tyranny, what does that make them in support of?

My reading of Robert's post is entirely different. In the first sentence, he seems to be saying that despite what Kevin said, "the people" kicked Benson out and are voting for representatives that impose improper laws and whatnot.

The rest, slathered in nationalist/patriotic rhetoric, seems to be him saying that in order to stop that, you should vote Republican in order to solve this problem of improper representatives imposing crap laws. I saw nothing wrong with his sentiments (as far as apathy and people forgetting the concepts the country was founded on) up until the point where his Reason derailed and this fantasy that the other party won't do the same thing when the power is in their hands popped in at the end.

On reflection, I realize that does end up putting him in the opposite camp (statism) but I don't think his intentions were ill-meaning. It sounds like he just doesn't get liberty yet, likely because he doesn't have the same foundations we do and hasn't realized the futility of voting yet. He's still in the star-spangled Constitution-worshiping Bill of Rights, salute the flag, part of the statist delusion, which isn't all that far from being cured with a bit of time and education.

A bit more disillusionment with his current choice for a savior and an introduction to the Philosophy of Liberty might be enough.

From reading things this fellow has written about me, in articles about me, I'm fairly certain he opposes the principles of liberty.

His reference to Craig Benson being kicked out of office for supporting the FSP (which isn't why he was kicked out of office) to me seemed like a proverbial nail being driven into the liberty movement on his part.

I'll take your word for it since I don't know the guy and you do. I'm just saying the post as-is could be read differently. It's hard to tell sometimes the intent of the writer unless its blatant since there's no tone or body language to go on but if he's badmouthed you and the movement before, that's evidence enough what his mindset is.

…to suggest that the "Republicans" – as in "Democrats & Republicans", are, can, or would, bring true freedom and liberty to America, is equally slavish and absurd as to suggest that the Roman Catholic Church is a herald of religious freedom…*GOD BLESS AMERICA*…(…please, God, PLEASE!, Bless America, OK?…We've about had all we can take, of your God-Damn "gawd-damns"…ok?…

The world isn't black and white.
