Heika’s Letter to Sgt. Cemorelis
Filed under: Jailed Activist, Personal Freedom, Police, Response, Update
Hello Officer Cemorelis,
I’m writing to you today to inform you that I am VERY disappointed in your performance this morning in the courtroom. I have known you for several years and thought you were so much better than that. I have heard from several sources (including your ex wife and yes, even some colleagues) about many underhanded things you have done, but have always stuck up for you saying that you are one of the “few good ones” in Keene. You are intelligent, funny, and charming. Now I also know you to be short fused, drunk on power, and a man of little to no morals. I am so sorry for whatever happened to change you into such a wretch, but please do NOT take it out on peaceful people.
My friend was merely sitting quietly in the courtroom in support of others (There are multiple videos out showing this). He was not being disruptive, nor was he any type of threat. Yet you felt it ok to smack this wonderful being right out of his chair? Have I mentioned how disappointed I am in your DISGUSTING conduct?? Read more
Keene professor endorses local currencies
From the Keene Sentinel:
Local is the way to go
It was great to see the front page of the Business section of The Sentinel on Saturday, Jan. 2, and read the featured story titled “Money From Nothing: Buffeted By Economy, Town Builds Its Own Currency.”
I appreciated reading this tale of how some community folks in the little rural town of North Fork, Calif., came together and developed a local currency to help their community through the recession and their very high unemployment level.
I also thought that the leader of this effort was right when he said, “Wall Street is making more money than it’s ever made, and Main Street is evaporating. That’s unsustainable.” Read more
QIK Update on Ademo
Courtesy of Pete, JJ, and Meg:
UPDATE: Pete is out, now FREE ADEMO
Ademo V. Freeman Now in General Population
According to my conversation with him today, Ademo has eaten and has cooperated to the point where he has been allowed into population in the Cheshire county jail. Now he will be able to reach other prisoners with the message of liberty over the next two months of his incarceration and also will be able to make phone calls and receive visitors. Details on visitation are here. If you aren’t in the area, be sure to send him mail via mail-to-jail!
Activists are continuing efforts to get him out sooner rather than later. You may want to check out the Free Ademo group on Facebook for the latest.
Will NH adopt approval voting?
Four Republican state representatives have sponsored a bill that would replace first-past-the-post voting with approval voting for all state offices and presidential primaries.
Under this system, voters would select every candidate they approve of (regardless of party), and the candidate with the highest overall vote total wins. This reduces strategic voting, and would often make elections easier for moderate and libertarian candidates.
The bill, HB240, will have a public hearing Tuesday, February 1st, with the House Election Law committee.

Sentinel Prints LTE Regarding Pete’s Arrest
From the Keene Sentinel’s letters-to-the-editor:
A Keene man was arrested and carried away for not taking his hat off in court.
Being grabbed and assaulted and carried away for wearing a hat in court is very wrong in my opinion and not what I want my tax dollars going for.
It is as wrong as wrong can be.
Assaulted and jailed for wearing a hat.

Pete is Free!

Sentinel Reports on Ademo’s Caging
From the Keene Sentinel’s “Police Blotter”: (Oh, and don’t forget the Sentinel’s comments section where the anonymous haters tend to come out in force.)
Man charged with contempt of court
After a profanity-laced interruption during an arraignment in Keene District Court Tuesday, a man affiliated with the libertarian Free Keene movement was charged with contempt of court, according to court documents.
Adam M. Mueller, whose age and address are not listed in court documents, was sentenced to 60 days in the Cheshire County jail by Keene District Court Judge Edward J. Burke.
