Libertarian Rep. Steve Vaillancourt vs. libertarian Rep. Seth Cohn on Occupy NH

In his latest episode of More Politically Alert, State Representative Steve Vaillancourt (R – Manchester), a libertarian opponent of Occupy NH, debates State Representative Seth Cohn (R – Canterbury), a libertarian member of Occupy NH. The discussion starts at around 10:45.

Vaillancourt, prolific media producer that he is, has also posted a blog about his experience at the redistricting committee hearing in Keene last Tuesday: Joy And Sorrow On The Redistricting Front. (See earlier Free Keene coverage.) Fun fact: I’ve never understood the appeal of the B-52′s.

Liberty on Tour has hit the road again, launching from Keene for a weekend in NYC. Pete and Ademo teamed up with Keeniacs Jason Repsher and “Redneck” Nick Billings and visited the Students for Liberty conference and then went to Occupy Wall St.

Higher quality videos to come, but for now here are some of their live streams from their weekend (They are returning to Keene later today.):

Occupy Bank of America – Success! :: The Occupy Song

Several activists gathered from 11a-1:30p today in front of the Main St. Bank of America to encourage people to close out their BoA accounts and open accounts at more local banks or credit unions. Hundreds of fliers were distributed, signs held, and songs sung. As Tully reports from his blog – it was more than just a protest – it was an effective day of outreach. He confirmed both by talking to people and calling local credit unions at the end of the day:

One customer, a young man who appeared to be in his late twenties, excitedly responded to us, “I just did it! I just opened up an account at the credit union, and I closed my Bank of America account!”

Indeed, he wasn’t alone: a phone interview with the Cheshire County Federal Credit Union by your blogger confirmed that several people came in today to open new accounts, and self-identified as those leaving the Bank of America.

Here’s his full blog covering today’s events.

Also, Keene’s first overnight occupier, Craig Dallas Rice created and performed “The Occupy Song”, which resulted in a singing session out in front of the Bank of America:

Redistricting committee leaves Keene in suspense

October 20, 2011 by · 15 Comments

Thanks to new census data and a recent amendment to the New Hampshire Constitution, voting districts are being redrawn all over New Hampshire. Keene, in particular, will experience major changes.

But, with only eight months left until state candidates begin filing to run for office, many details are still undecided.

In the last election, Keene residents voted for 7 state representatives, all running at large (that is, they represent the entire city). The new Constitutional amendment, passed in 2006, requires that, if a town or city ward has enough people to support its own state representative, it must have its own state representative. All 5 wards in Keene qualify. Thus, there will be at least 5 state representatives in Keene representing individual wards.

By itself, this will bring major changes. Read more

Guest Blog about Central Sq.

Brian Anderson, a potential future mover to Keene, comments on the Central Square controversy. He does get one major point wrong though, and that is that “Free Staters” were not the ones accused of cursing loudly at Central Square – it is only a few of the Juggalos that have been doing that. Most of the Juggalos are peaceful and are not causing that issue. That said, here’s Brian’s essay about what might be done:

To the people of Keene, New Hampshire:

A quick introduction—my name is Brian Anderson. I’m 21 years old and will be graduating with a bachelor’s degree in the biological sciences (concentration in human biology) in 2013. I hope to attend medical school and open a private surgery practice. I write a weekly opinion column for the university’s newspaper, and my writing is featured at the Ludwig von Mises Institute, LewRockwell.com, and a few other organizations.

I’m thrilled to think about moving to Keene after graduation, but recently the excitement hasn’t been as bright. Read more

UPDATE from the Manch mass arrests: “Criminal Trespass” is the charge of the night, and as has happened in Keene, activists arrested in Manchester are being told to not return to Veterans’ or Victory parks via a no trespassing threat. The kidnapping victims are refusing to take the gang’s “plea deal” and are going to trial.
