“Free Staters are the single biggest threat the state is facing today.” – State Rep Cynthia Chase

District 8 State Representative Cynthia Chase of Keene has made her position clear on liberty-loving activists moving here, and it’s quite the endorsement of the success of the Free State Project. In a post to Blue Hampshire, she reveals that she believes Free Staters are the biggest threat to the state (something to be proud of) and that she and some others on Central Square during the peace vigil attempted to scare away a visiting couple from moving here. (As an aside, what was Ms. Chase doing at the peace vigil? She must be very confused about what peace is. Hint- it doesn’t include using aggressive force on people via “the state”.)

Here’s her comment from Blue Hampshire:

In the opinion of this Democrat, Free Staters are the single biggest threat the state is facing today. There is, legally, nothing we can do to prevent them from moving here to take over the state, which is their openly stated goal. In this country you can move anywhere you choose and they have that same right. What we can do is to make the environment here so unwelcoming that some will choose not to come, and some may actually leave. One way is to pass measures that will restrict the “freedoms” that they think they will find here. Another is to shine the bright light of publicity on who they are and why they are coming. They can not put their ideology into our statutes unless we elect them in great enough numbers to take over our General Court. We have already seen them try during the last session of the General Court. Our last election was a repudiation of their extremism.

Here in Keene we had a couple show up on Central Square to take part in our weekly Saturday morning peace demonstration. In the course of the conversation they allowed that they were Free Staters considering moving to Keene. The folks on the Square told them in no uncertain terms not to do that because Free Staters are not welcome here. Cheshire County is a welcoming community but not to those whose stated goal is to move in enough ideologues to steal our state, and our way of life.

Ultimately the Free Staters want NH to be a platform state for them to export their views to the rest of the country. Some of these folks dress up pretty well, but if you check their website you will find that they are really wolves in sheep’s clothing. The best strategy from my perspective is to keep shining a light on their views and activities and make it very plain that NH is not up for sale to any ideology. To ignore these people and hope they go away is a recipe for disaster.

So, i'm a liberal but this makes me mad. The whole point of the democratic process is to put your views out there and let the people decide. This lady sounds like she wants to stop the will of the people. I am not for that.

Stop being a liberal. Liberals are fascists as this lady proves.

When Ms. Chase says that she opposes the Free Staters moving to NH, she might have mentioned that she brought her sorry butt from Rhode island, along with her views, which many home grown Granite Staters might find repulsive.

I grew up here in Rhode Island. Yeah, it is pretty hopeless politically. I was just mentioning today how many AWESOME, passionate, opinionated people live here, and yet no one is doing much on a local level to enact any real change. The spirit of many beautiful people here has been broken by the oppression of every tax imaginable, independent business failures, lack of jobs, and lack of community support. I was taxed 3 times for my car recently. Income tax on the cash I made to buy the car. Sales tax: many hundreds. .....and now a hefty property tax each year I own it. I am STILL paying a tax for another car, 1997 vehicle worth NOTHING, but RHODE ISLAND changed its laws to jack up the book value on old cars and is now taxing EVERY vehicle in RI, even those that are worthless, based on their agenda-based, rigged law that screws all the citizens of RI. I don't even bother calling anyone to complain---I've tried in the past to talk to my representatives....they do not call back!

Typical liberal. Is Cynthia Chase even a woman? She looks like a union thug to me.... overweight, man-like features, zero common sense, and telling others what is good for them.

Can we get some Free Staters in California? And at the rate Californians are flooding into Texas, there will be some relief needed there as well.

Just to be clear, I am not a "Free Stater", as that term is a contradiction. I am a "No Stater". Freedom is incompatible with the state.

"... shining a light ..." is the last thing a statist can survive. Ideologies are bought and sold through intelligent discourse. Statists survive by appeal to irrational emotions, circumventing reason. The same may be said of the sophists, i.e., pseudo philosophers. I invite Cynthia to "bring it on".

You noticed that she only used allusion to disparage in her remarks. She has nothing, she is a statist and most likely intellectually bankrupt.

Just read this on Tom Woods website. She is the liberal statist version of a neocon. Just as they want to keep brown-skinned people out of the US, she wants to keep Free Staters from moving in on her turf. Live Free of Die? I think that that slogan is sooo outmoded.

To ignore people like Chase who migrated here from big nanny states and who are an even bigger threat to NH's way of life and hope they go away is a recipe for disaster. To fail to realize that she is of this category of the unwanted herself is an even bigger irony on Chase's part.

"Ultimately the Free Staters want NH to be a platform state for them to export their views to the rest of the country." So they want to move to NH to "platform their views." Last time I checked, companies like GE, Exxon, and Lockheed Martin pay people called lobbyist to argue for or against specific legislation in Washington D.C. How is this different from lobbiest? State Rep. Cynthia Chase: part of the problem. Lima-1, out.

She's right. Free Staters are a very real threat to this woman and her way of life. She's an advocate for the parastic caste of society, which uses force to loot, pillage, plunder, and generally impose its will upon free individuals.

she sounds like racist except its not about race. She might as well be talking about blacks, gays, jews, or whatever group. Seems to me like she doesn't like freedom, liberty or the constitution. How did she get elected anyway?

After all, being "inclusive" has its limits it appears, even to people who tell us how open minded they are. In truth, socialism is at war with liberty and people who seek it.

My email to Cynthia: -------------------------------- Hi Cynthia, I had the pleasure of reading an article about your thoughts on the Free State Project. I'm glad you're outspoken and hope to one day meet you when I move to NH :) I can imagine how threatening our movement must be. I'd probably feel similar if some movement was trying to take over the state I lived in. The only thing I can say in an attempt to comfort you is that we're coming to create Freedom and Liberty, nothing more. We're coming to do what our founding fathers believed in. If you doubt this - then please engage us. We're an outspoken bunch as well. @LeandroMan

Not up for sale for anything but YOUR ideology, Cynthia. It is completely adorable the way you somehow relate everything on Talkback to the fact that you had children and they didn't do X or you raised them to be Y or are in denial that they enjoy doing Z. The fact that you prefaced your abominable declaration of intent to - and I quote - " restrict the “freedoms” that they think they will find here" by pointing out that you are a Democrat shows what a devoted and soulless idealogue YOU are. YOU would sell out native New Hampshirites and "freedoms" men have fought and died to preserve. Or do you suppose the statue of John Stark on the House lawn is just a decoration? You are a pathetic, sycophantic shill, and people like YOU are the reason this country is becoming a cesspool of whining, entitled, terrified eternal children. This nation's death is on your hands Cynthia. Yours.

Cynthia Chase seems to be confused about the same thing as Aaron Gill who was interviewed for the second NewHampshire.com column on the Free State Project: http://freekeene.com/2012/12/20/its-really-disturbing-to-think-about-what-20000-of-them-could-do-to-new-hampshire/ Gill says that he just wants to be left alone and doesn't want to be told what to do and claims that Free Staters are preventing that by moving in "from other places trying to tell New Hampshire what to do." Chase also claims that Free Staters are "moving here to take over the state." Both Chase and Gill don't seem to understand that the New Hampshire government is controlling peoples' lives and refusing to leave them alone. Both Chase and Gill support having the government do this and apparently believe that they have the right to control peoples' lives through the government. It is likely because they believe that they have the right to control people's lives in this manner that they erroenously see the Free Staters' attempts to prevent the government from aggressively controlling people's lives as as essentially an invasion of NH rather than a freeing of NH. When Chase says "steal our state, and our way of life" in the above article she is trying to make efforts to free people from the tyranny of the state seem like bad things. Free Staters are only "stealing" the way of life of those whose way of life is to unjustly and parasitically live off others by means of extortion and other forms of aggressive coercion using the government.

Wow, I am moving from PA to NH because it already has the reputation of being the "freeest state in the nation". That means less government intrusion into the private lives of its citizens. As a state representative, I presume she was part of the process that achieved that remarkable designation. If not, and if she prefers to embrace bigger government telling people what to do with their lives, their property, and the fruits of their labor, perhaps she should move. When a state has as its motto, "Live Free or Die," I presume that its citizens embrace liberty, freedom, and the Constitution and would welcome like-minded individuals.

How does someone with her views on Freedom get elected in a State like New Hampshire? Hopefully after publicly stating that the solution is to "pass measures that restrict freedoms", she won't have to worry about being reelected.

She lives in Keene. I don't think a Republican has been a state rep in Keene in a decade. 2 of the 5 most Democratic districts in NH are in Keene.
