Here is my answer:

I’m not only interested in preventing tax increases, I’d like to actually lower taxes. Many politicians say this, but I’m serious. To prove it, I’m giving all of my tax funded paychecks back to sixteen lucky Ward Four taxpayers that vote in this election. There is only one realistic way to cut taxes and it’s to transition programs to voluntary funding methods, while voting down government increases. The truth is, no one knows how to spend your money better than you. A vote for me is one for personal responsibility!

On November 6th, if you are tired of the constant growth, increasing intrusiveness, and tax burden of government then you finally have a candidate worth voting for in the Keene municipal election, Ward 4. That candidate is me, Julia Miranda. So far, I am the only candidate who has signed the Small Government Pledge which says I’ll vote small government. You can see my signed pledge in full at vote.freekeene.com.

In case signing the pledge isn’t enough to prove that I’m serious about working to increase freedom, I’ll go the extra step of giving away my City Councilor paychecks. Councilors are paid $2,000 a year in $500 quarterly installments. I expect they will be taking taxes out of my check, so I will give away whatever is left. Four giveaways per year over four years means 16 taxpayers will be able to get a little bit of their money back and that I won’t be getting paid a dime to be your City Councilor!

I would appreciate it if you would vote for me. You can learn which Ward you’re in, where to go to vote, more about me, the Small Government Pledge, and Liberty, as well as contribute to my campaign at vote.freekeene.com . Please let me know what’s important to you. Feel free to contact me directly at 603-852-8482 and julia at freekeene.com.

Please vote for me on November 6th.

Sunday afternoon, April’s Free Keene meeting was held, with nine in attendance, at a new location: The Student Center at Keene State College. We decided to take advantage of the lovely weather, and had it at some tables outside. It seems everyone agreed that the seatbelt regulation fliers were a good idea, though could be better coordinated in the future. We discussed using this method of outreach later on, and someone agreed to look into pricing.

“Keene Freedom Fest” as I’ll call it for now, was the main topic at hand. Free Minds TV threw out the idea of putting together a series of outreach events in downtown Keene. Their vision included bringing liberty organizations from around the state to set up tables in Railroad Square and offering food, which could also be a potential fund raiser.

A protest to be held right off the KSC campus regarding being able to protect oneself to prevent school violence was briefly discussed, as well as the formation of Action Groups. The idea is to have small sub groups formed that could help delegate certain tasks, in the areas of fund raising, outreach, and campaigns. Everyone seemed to enjoy having the meeting outdoors, so we brainstormed for another location.

After the meeting, Ian and I checked out Robin Hood Park as a possible future meeting location. We agreed it would be better than the college because of parking and the space. Look forward to seeing you there for our May meeting.

I had a good time this afternoon at Free Keene’s second monthly meeting at Panera. There was roughly a 33% increase in attendance this month, with thirteen present.

The first topic at hand was a request for a change in the location of the next meeting. Details on April’s Free Keene meeting will be posted soon. Next the crew discussed important outreach tools such as an Operation Politically Homeless booth at the Cheshire Fair, letters to the editor, local FIJA protests, and online networking.

Mark has announced he will be producing a new show on Cheshire TV, the local cable access channel that hosts Free Minds TV.

The group strategized and socialized for about ninety minutes chalking up a second successful meeting. I hope you’ll join us next month.

Finally, don’t forget to check out Tilting at Windmills 2007 next Saturday!

As usual, I was impressed with the enthusiasm and creativity the attendees expressed.

The topics of discussion began with the current situation on HB92, a bill designed to eliminate marijuana from the criminal drug laws as I understand it. If you have not done so already, please sign the petition. Also, stay tuned for a monthly newsletter and action alerts coming soon from NH Common Sense.

A brainstorming session for the upcoming 2007 municipal elections in Keene followed, including the discussion of what issues the people of Keene care about the most, and activating and encouraging Keene State students to get out and vote.

I encourage fellow liberty lovers and Keene-iacs in the area to attend in March!
