Julia Miranda on Taxes

Filed under: Business Freedom, Economic Freedom, Issues, News, Personal Freedom, Question, ToDo — Julia at 11:42 pm on Wednesday, September 26, 2007

julia-city.jpgKeene Citizens Government Review asked this question of city council candidates: What specifically would you recommend doing to hold down spending and, thus, prevent high tax increases?

Here is my answer:

I’m not only interested in preventing tax increases, I’d like to actually lower taxes. Many politicians say this, but I’m serious. To prove it, I’m giving all of my tax funded paychecks back to sixteen lucky Ward Four taxpayers that vote in this election. There is only one realistic way to cut taxes and it’s to transition programs to voluntary funding methods, while voting down government increases. The truth is, no one knows how to spend your money better than you. A vote for me is one for personal responsibility!

It appears that someone has created a hit piece blog directed against several of the bloggers and the ideas presented here at FreeKeene.com. Notice a couple of critical differences between our blog and the hit piece blog:

  • Here at FreeKeene.com, everything we post has a comments area. Anyone with an e-mail address can post their comments on this site. The hit piece blog however, has no comments option.
  • Every blogger at FreeKeene.com is clearly identifiable and they’ve all written their own biographies. Our bloggers are your neighbors, friends, coworkers, and maybe even your family. The blogger at the hit piece is anonymous.

From this point on, for the sake of simplicity the anonymous blogger will be called “Fred”. In his first post he writes, (Read on …)

Julia Miranda, Your Pro-Liberty Candidate for Councilor

Filed under: Business Freedom, Economic Freedom, Introduction, Issues, News, Personal Freedom, ToDo — Julia at 7:36 pm on Sunday, September 23, 2007

julia-city.jpgOn November 6th, if you are tired of the constant growth, increasing intrusiveness, and tax burden of government then you finally have a candidate worth voting for in the Keene municipal election, Ward 4. That candidate is me, Julia Miranda. So far, I am the only candidate who has signed the Small Government Pledge which says I’ll vote small government. You can see my signed pledge in full at vote.freekeene.com.

In case signing the pledge isn’t enough to prove that I’m serious about working to increase freedom, I’ll go the extra step of giving away my City Councilor paychecks. Councilors are paid $2,000 a year in $500 quarterly installments. I expect they will be taking taxes out of my check, so I will give away whatever is left. Four giveaways per year over four years means 16 taxpayers will be able to get a little bit of their money back and that I won’t be getting paid a dime to be your City Councilor!

I would appreciate it if you would vote for me. You can learn which Ward you’re in, where to go to vote, more about me, the Small Government Pledge, and Liberty, as well as contribute to my campaign at vote.freekeene.com . Please let me know what’s important to you. Feel free to contact me directly at 603-852-8482 and julia at freekeene.com.

Please vote for me on November 6th.
