Sentinel Refuses to Publish Letter from Andrew Carroll

Innocent oversight or calculated tactic? The Sentinel refused to publish a letter from liberty-oriented candidate Andrew Carroll prior to the primary election. From Andrew’s website:

This was an unpublished letter to the editor I sent to the Sentinel shortly before the 2010 Democratic primary. It is unfortunate that they did not publish it, as the letter cleared my name of the wrongly attributed Free Keene stigma – a stigma which, though false, cost me many votes in the election. I provide it here, now, in hopes that those who visit my site may still find value in it. Thank you.

Let’s Talk About the Issues

My name is Andrew Carroll and I am running for State Representative right here in Keene. There are many important issues facing voters this September 14, and I have done my best to address some of them here and on my campaign website: Carroll4NH.com

But first, let me clear up some confusion:

I am not a Free Keene member. I do not condone the controversial tactics of some Free Keene members. I find some of the behavior to be disruptive and I do not believe it is an appropriate way to proceed. I believe that we can do good things, and work to make positive contributions to this community, by working together within the democratic process.

That is why I have been positive this whole campaign, and have focused solely on the issues. I have knocked on doors; I have created a campaign website; I have attended events and talked to voters. I have done more than all the other candidates combined this election to reach out to Keene voters and let them know who I am and what I stand for. I have been doing my best to focus on what is important: the issues.

Hopefully, with so little time left before the September 14 primary, the two candidates that have criticized me can focus on the issues as well, and not continue misinforming voters.

On taxes, we need to find something much more progressive than our current property tax structure which fails to take individual income into account. Whether this means a sales or income or other tax; we need to be open to all possibilities regarding this issue and find something better.

The war on drugs continues to victimize patients who may find some medicinal benefit in marijuana. Before we can move on to the question of non-medical use, we need to get these poor souls off the battle-field. Hopefully all of our Representatives can understand the moral severity of this issue, and that criminalizing dying patients is not a sign of compassionate governance.

We also have a chance to stand up for the rights of brave immigrants who have often left friends and family behind to seek a better life in America. We need to work at the state level, through legislation and the encouragement of particular enforcement policies, to oppose any illegal or immoral attempts to discriminate against workers based on race or language spoken. Many workers in New England are afraid to go to the market, or leave their workplace, out of fear of deportation. These people need our help, and they need to know the promise of freedom still exists in America.

Thank you for your time. And please visit my website and ask me questions. I want everyone to know what I stand for because I truly believe we can do great things in Concord, together. Carroll4NH.com (603) 355 – 7404
