- The Union Leader is reporting that an inmate from a New Hampshire halfway house is on the loose. The article doesn’t say specifically what this man is imprisoned for but I’m going to guess: habitual offender. I agree that driving safely is important to road travel, however, one can become a habitual traffic offender having never harmed or even remotely endangered someone. The county jails are full of people imprisoned for the simple act of safely driving down the street after having been “certified” as a habitual offender. I am personally responsible for quite a few caged human beings for this reason and I’m truly sorry for it. In a just and free society people would only face punishment if they actually endangered or hurt someone else. This fellow, whom I am assuming has hurt no one else, now will face the charge of escape and several more years in the state prison… and we all get punished by having to pay for it.
- Hanover Police are in the news having busted a fraternity for serving alcohol to “minors.” The story specifically mentions a twenty year old adult being arrested for alcohol possession. Liberty arguments aside: how just is it that this adult could be drafted and forced to go fight for the United States, but can’t have a beverage with alcohol in it without being arrested? Also, how is it fair to punish someone as an adult for doing something that they are allegedly not adult enough to be doing in the first place? I find it particularly silly that the actual fraternity that was targeted by the police is in the paper saying that they “support Hanover Police’s efforts to curb underage drinking.” I’m quite sure they really don’t. I’m sure they’re just saying it because they don’t want to be sanctioned by the college.
- Ha ha ha! Before I had enough news gathered to post this to the FK blog the Union Leader proved my prediction about the first story correct. The guy who walked away from the halfway house was indeed serving a sentence for being a habitual traffic offender: “Cordano was serving two concurrent 1 to 5 year terms for being a habitual offender.” I hate being right when it comes to the predictability of the state treating people like dog excrement.
- Nothing like criminalizing one’s thoughts. A real crime is a crime…. no matter what the motivation for it is.
- The New Hampshire government still has a $295 million budget shortfall and it is causing some debate on allowing more freedom. Video slots are one of the ideas being floated to raise revenue. You know… video slots. The kind that people were arrested in Manchester for operating a few weeks ago? It’s sad that people in government only consider allowing more freedom for voluntary interaction between people when they need more money.
- There is a loose monkey in Winchester. Really.
- “Fed chief sees delicate dance ahead(.)” The Federal Reserve is one of the most insidious government institutions that exists today. It allows the government to covertly steal from you. The Federal Reserve is responsible for the economic crisis we now face and it is being looked to as the method in which to fix it.
