There is only one organization in existence that gets more money when it fails at precisely what it is supposed to be good at. What is it?
That’s right friends, the government.
An article today in The Foster’s Daily Democrat is about how the bureaucarcy of New Hampshire’s Weights and Measures could be shut down in this state. It is titled “No state seal of approval: N.H. may no longer ensure weights and measures(.)”
DOVER — The assumption people have when they pull up to a gas pump is that they will get what they pay for.
But that’s not always the case, say representatives from the N.H. Department of Agriculture, Markets and Food’s division of Weights and Measures.
And legislation currently making its way through the state’s House and Senate is proposing the regulating arm of that department be privatized.
I don’t know about you, but I’d trust the certification of a private organization like Underwriters Laboratories any day of the week over the work of any government regulatory agency. If UL fails and people die as a result of their poor work, their reputation is ruined, they pay massive damages, and they’ll probably go out of business.
If the government fails? Well, they’re immune from suit, and they’ll just get more money. Why bother trying to succeed when failure means more money?
This could be a good business prospect for free market orientated people.
