I’m sitting in my jail cell writing a letter in response to Keene liberty activist Darryl W. Perry of the Free Patriot Press, when a knock comes at my door. It’s Tom LaCount, a tall, handsomely-built man who some of the inmates call “Dracula” for his slicked-back dark hair and resemblance to a vampire.
“A white pickup truck and a Subaru just pulled up,” he informs me with a nod of his head toward his cell and a smirk. Tom is one of the lucky inmates in this cell block to have a window with a view. The rest of us have windows that face a red brick wall. Tom walks away and I check to see if the guard is watching. When walks out of view, I slip swiftly into LaCount’s cell which I notice is very clean and orderly and smells of sanitizer. I peer out the window and recognize the figures instantly.
Emberlea, wearing a red hoodie and her son, Liam, in shorts, and a man wearing shorts. They all carried signs, but I could only read one–“No Victim, No Crime”. This is the same sign I held my first time doing the jail “sign-wave”. Then another car pulled up–a white Nissan, I think. I saw Ian Freeman and some others step out. Ian had his “STOP THIS POLICE STATE” sign and was waving with a smile. An 18-wheeler even honked as it passed.
After waving my watch around in Dracula’s sunlit window, I captured Ian’s attention and he waved back. There’s nothing like that feeling since I’ve been in jail, the feeling of being seen by a friend. I’m so glad the Keene liberty activists have been doing this on a regular basis and I will miss this part of Keene until I return again.
Following the sign-wave, I was greeted by Darryl W. Perry of the Free Patriot Press and Kelly Voluntaryist, who both looked beautiful. They informed me that the man holding the “No Victim, No Crime” sign was a new mover named Conan whom I have yet to meet. I am also excited to learn that the Shire has regained Philly activist Nicholas Shankin. I was having a sort of frustrating day as I still struggle with being in jail, but it helps me get through it knowing I have the support and friendship of so many great people. 🙂
If you haven’t done so already, check out the latest trailer for my upcoming documentary, Victimless Crime Spree. Peace!
