Day 11, 5/17/12 – Derrick J from Jail

May 17 2012 Day 11
I was awoken to be a “cart runner” today. No biggie, but I hate the airport style groping that comes with it. After coming back from delivering breakfast and seeing “Mr. Hall” snap on some latex gloves, I said “Thank you for flying Delta Airlines.” He laughed, then touched me all over my body. During lunch, I asked Scott in the kitchen why the car runners no longer bring back 2 trays with them so that they can hanve hot meals. He said that one of the cart runners who came after Ian “ruined it for everyone”. I can’t imagine what he could have done, but I see Scott’s statement more accurately as “Some cerntral planner with a one-size-fits-all mentality put a restriction on my freedom because of the actions of another”. Later, when I got back from delivering lunch, Mr. Delpha did not pat me down but instead said “you’re all set”. Cool! I hope that trend continues.

Damn, I am disappointed to learn that the commissary company charges a fee whenever anyone adds money – it makes me want to tell everyone not to do it. Kelly graciously and generously but $20 in and I saw that it only increased my balance by $16.75 – ouch! That’s like 15%! There’s no end to the injustices of this place is there?

Wow! I just saw Graham come into R-Block into one of the observation rooms. I have no idea why he is here. He looks sad. I wrote him a letter just now. Hopefully that lifts his spirits. Beau just also wrote him a letter, and we shared an envelope to save on postage. We had to guess at the spelling of his last name: “Colton” was our guess. I have been hungry! I think I will order those bagels and peanut butter. It’s about $9 but I think it will be filling. Maybe I should try just getting peanut butter and using it on the rolls that come with dinner or just eating it straight – bagels never filled me that much anyway and they cost more than the PB – 6 bagels are $5 and PB is $3.60. But either way, damn! My stomach hurts from growling. If others can make it, I can too. But I really shouldn’t lose weight in jail – most people gain. Maybe I will work in the kitchen more often and get to eat a big breakfast and lunch. Being a cart runner sucks because I always get the smallest, coldest breakfast, lunch, and dinner because we get our trays last and everyone has picked through them already to give themselves the biggest meals they can get. Ugh Blech! =l
Today and tomorrow, I should write to Katelia and Mail-to-Jail, and finishe my letter to Dad. I already wrote today to Graham, Michele Seven, sister Elizabeth, and Renee.
