Sunday night, September 9 – the anniversary of the infamous Live Free or Dance Party, approximately a dozen activists gathered in Ashuelot Park for Live Free or Dance II. The party was scheduled for 1 hour beginning at 10pm.
The party was to take place in the gazebo, however it was moved to the picnic area due to people sleeping in the gazebo. Party lights were set-up and a laptop was used for the music. About half of those in attendance decided to use headphones and listen to music from their cell-phones or mp3 players. Everyone danced and had a good time.
Two Keene Police Officers arrived around between 10:45 and 10:50pm and said the park was closed (even though no signage is posted with hours) but that we could stay until 11, since it was just a few more minutes. These officers then told the people sleeping in the gazebo that they, too, had to leave.
No one was arrested, pepper-sprayed, tased or in any way harmed by KPD. The party continued as planned and everyone went to bed safely at the end of the night. Live Free or Dance II was a success!
