For no reason whatsoever, Keene police showed up in force at Central Square yesterday during a memorial for Craig Metivier and threatened the peaceful crowd with pepper spray if they did not leave the park. True, a call had been made to police regarding a fight in the park, (apparently over $15) but instead of calmly questioning people in the park and collecting the story, the cops sent the entire department plus Cheshire Sheriffs and Staties! They burst into the park yelling threats and holding large cans of pepper spray, telling people to leave in three seconds.
All of this after the fight had long ended and everything was relatively calm.
Overreact much, KPD? It reminds me of the time they brought out a machine gun for a fight call at Gino’s a couple of years back. Here’s a QIK video I took yesterday just after the threats; sorry about the crappy perspective:
