Today I witnessed something that I found so shockingly callus, while at the same time unsurprising.
I went to Keene City Hall to file the asinine “required papers” to capture video of the ‘public trial’ Burke is holding for Sam this Friday. As I came into the 2nd floor lobby, the bailiff recognized me, and I gave him a friendly smile and a ‘Hello’. The bureaucrat behind the window began looking for some information I requested, I noticed a state trooper walking around in the area behind the counter. As he exited through the side door, and entered the hallway that leads into the courtroom, I could no longer see him; however, when he began to speak to the bailiff, I could hear him plainly:
“Hey, remember those Free Staters we got the other day? We just got him again!”
He exclaimed this in a tone of absolute joy, and then began laughing.
Perhaps you’ve heard of the “thin blue line”? Besides being a gang symbol that the police use to identify one another in public when they are off duty or in different areas, it’s also describes the “brotherhood” of being a cop. Cops protect other cops. When one of them is under attack for doing something awful, you can watch as the thin blue line closes up to protect the one that is in danger. It happens again and again across America and the world. Only the cops who are caught red-handed doing the most egregious things are the ones unable to be effectively protected by their system. 99% of them get away with their crimes with their department spokespeople making excuses and brushing their abuses under the rug. It doesn’t matter in many cases that there are witnesses or even video of the officer’s alleged transgressions.
Looks like there may be a thin red line here in Keene. I went today to talk to John MacLean, the city manager. I wanted to ask him what the city’s policy was about employees who steal. He said he couldn’t do anything unless I complained to the police. As I’d mentioned in an earlier post, I’d rather forgive Ron Leslie, the thief in this case, and the captain of the EMS B squad. I was just curious what the city people would do about a naughty employee, and I wasn’t expecting much.
Turns out the situation is worse than I thought. (more…)
Agents from the city of Keene were standing by all day long at Keene’s ward 4 voting location, lurking in wait for people registered to vote at the UPS Store at 39 Central Square. Whenever a voter would attempt to vote with a registration at that address, the voting bureaucrat would issue a challenge to the individual’s voting registration, claiming that address was not a “valid domicile”. The challenge meant that a “domicile affadavit” was brought out and the person in question was required to swear an oath that his domicile was indeed at the address they were claiming. We know this intimidation tactic irritated one potential voter so much he turned around and left. This is pure intimidation, as all they really need is an affidavit swearing domicile in a particular ward, however they always claim they need an exact address, which is nonsense, as homeless people can register to vote. I filled out my domicile address as homeless (more…)
I sent the following letter to CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies) which recently had an auditor out certifying KPD.
Hello CALEA Staff,
I’m writing to inform you of another incident with the Keene PD, which recently went though the certification process. I spoke with Barbara during the feedback session, but don’t have any further contact information, as your organization doesn’t seem interested in hearing from the public. (more…)
Recorded as it happened and unedited. The jumps in the beginning are me hitting the pause button on the camera. Kurt was sentenced to 180 days in jail for attempting to converse with Edward Burke, the robed man calling himself a judge.
Cheshire sheriffs demand we not record as Kurt Hoffman who minutes before was incapacitated by Eli Rivera, Keene PD’s prosecutor, is wheeled out from Keene District Court on a stretcher. They claim some words on paper called “HIPA” prevent the “free press” from recording people receiving medical care, even if the recipient requests cameras present:
Did you know that EMS workers are also now enforcers of some arbitrary words on paper called “HIPA”? (I didn’t – I thought they were good people who do their best to help. Guess that’s not true of all of them.) EMS workers and sheriffs claim that “HIPA” allows them to prevent you from recording video of what they do with patients. Apparently it doesn’t matter what the patient wants. Watch as this thug steals my camera. I then spent over an hour of my time waiting around to get it back.
