Speeding Ticket Dropped!

November 2011 – I am pulled over for speeding on the way back from some activism in Concord with a car full of activists. Trooper Kelly Healy asks my passengers for ID – I remind her that as passengers they are in no way obligated to show her ID. As I reach for my car registration she asks about my driver’s license and why there was an NH address on a FL license. I decline to answer her probing questions, instead asking her questions of my own, like, “Am I being detained?”. Healy returns to her car and later comes back with a speeding ticket, to which I ask her if she really wants to go to court, and she claims that is my choice. I remind her that it was her choice to aggress against me and tell her I’ll see her in court.

Or, maybe not. Trooper Healy never showed up to a court hearing scheduled for this week and the case was dismissed on my motion to dismiss for failure to appear on the part of the complaining party. I “won”! Here’s video from the pullover and court hearing:

I put quotes around the win because it took many hours of my time, for which I will not be compensated. Allow me to detail the process: (more…)

DerrickJ Ends the Fed DC 2012

Protesters burn bills in front of the Fed as helplessly outnumbered security observes.

From DerrickJ’s blog at LiveFreeOrDance.com:

Today I went with the Adam Vs The Man crew to Washington, D.C. (Mordor). I went in order to take video of a rally. Adam Kokesh went to speak on a megaphone and help MC the event. He led a march down from the Treasury Building to the Federal Reserve, where about 60 people marched and chanted, “END THE FED, END THE DEBT, END THE WARS.” Upon arrival at the Federal Reserve building, activists lined up to face the building along its front and symbolically turned their backs in an “about face.” Some activists burned dollar bills in front of the building as security guards watched, hopelessly outnumbered by a crowd of peaceful people armed to the teeth with video cameras.

Here’s some video of a speech I gave about living freer by moving to the Shire today (From Fr33manTV):

Here’s all of the raw video I shot that day (from the Activist Raw Video Youtube Channel):

HUGE NEWS: Jury Nullifies Felony in Cannabis Grower’s Trial!

Pot LeafIn a developing story that has hit Reason.com, an NH jury has acquitted a man facing a felony for growing cannabis! It’s our first real-life case of jury nullification here in NH and the jury nullification law hasn’t even gone into effect yet. Kudos to the judge for reading a fair and easy-to-understand jury instruction about nullifying as an option! Also, it probably helped that a free stater was on the jury!

If you are an self-described anarchist or agorist and you are not registered to vote, you need to remedy that now. Being on the voter’s rolls means you could be chosen as a juror, which means that even if you never actually cast a vote in an election, you could cast a vote on a jury that could stop someone’s life from being ruined. Here is the proof. Is there still any doubt the Free State Project is working? If you haven’t made the move, what are you waiting for?

Here’s the story from Reason, which includes the judge’s instruction to the jury:

A few months ago, New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch signed a bill declaring that “in all criminal proceedings the court shall permit the defense to inform the jury of its right to judge the facts and the application of the law in relation to the facts in controversy.” Although the new law does not take effect until next January, a case decided yesterday in Belknap County illustrates the importance of the nullification power it recognizes. A jury unanimously acquitted Doug Darrell, a 59-year-old Rastafarian charged with marijuana cultivation, after his lawyer, Mark Sisti, argued that a conviction would be unjust in light of the fact that Darrell was growing cannabis for his own religious and medicinal use. More remarkably, Judge James O’Neill instructed the jury that “even if you find that the State has proven each and every element of the offense charged beyond a reasonable doubt, you may still find the defendant not guilty if you have a conscientious feeling that a not guilty verdict would be a fair result in this case.” (more…)

Protect Your Rights At The Border

I recently was interviewed by the media regarding my attempts to force the United States Department of Homeland Security to respect the 5th Amendment at the international border.  It inspires me to re-post Attorney Paul Karl Lukacs’s blog titled “10 Reasons To Refuse Answering Questions at Passport Control.”

It is very important to defend your legal rights when traveling internationally…  so please do read this:

Official Press Release Goes LIVE!

Kari DePhillips of PR firm The Content Factory wrote up an official press release for Derrick J’s Victimless Crime Spree, which can be seen here.  Kari did a remarkable job at presenting the information in a scintillating and succinct way.  She was able to walk me through every step of the way and made helpful recommendations about how to stay at the front of the action.  I am extremely grateful for her very professional services and will be sure to follow her advice in the future.  For those of you who do not know Kari, she is the strikingly eloquent young beauty who graced our televisions on the likes of CNN and FOX (Video).

Previously, Ian Freeman had written up press releases about activities with which I’d been involved.  For example, he sent out e-mails to a list of news agencies regarding our arrests at the Cheshire County Superior Courthouse for “criminally trespassing” (on public property).  Those were always good and got the point across in a brief message, but I know professionalism when I see it, and this press release sets the bar high.  If anyone, activist or otherwise, is looking for a hand promoting a message or event, consider Kari from the Content Factory.  I’m glad I chose her!
