The Amazing Silence: Joan Roelofs on the State of the Antiwar Movement

On Friday, November 16 at the Unitarian Universalist church in Keene, New Hampshire Peace Action hosted a presentation and discussion with author Joan Roelofs. Joan is a former professor at Keene State College and the author of Foundations and Public Policy: The Mask of Pluralism and Greening Cities: Building Just and Sustainable Communities. In her presentation, she theorizes the reasons for the disappointing state of antiwar movement, given the chronic militarization of the globe. See the playlist embedded below for the full hour and forty minute discussion on focusing through the distractions to confront the issues that most threaten peaceful human existence.

Is Secession Coming Back in Style?

If 22 national petitions filed on Whitehouse.gov, and an article today in the Concord Monitor are any indicator, discussion of the concept of secession is spreading rapidly through the minds of many in the United States. The Examiner reports that as of Monday, 22 states have a number of people circulating petitions for recognition of potential independence on the White House’s official petitioning website. While these numbers are currently in the hundreds and low thousands, the recognition of the legitimacy of the concept seems to be reaching a high water mark, and could continue swelling.

Ben Leubsdorf has penned two article’s in today’s Monitor about individuals making major movement with their feet, both into and out of New Hampshire. He reports on the expatriation of Frank Szabo, the controversial candidate for sheriff of Hillsborough County. Szabo announced early in his candidacy for the republican nomination that he had interest in protecting the sovereignty of New Hampshire from unconstitutional federal law enforcement actions. His campaign crashed and burned when he advocated enforcing non-existent laws against abortion seekers and providers. He announced Sunday on his facebook page that he had recently relocated to South America, where he plans to enjoy the remainder of his days. Currently in Chile, he states that he hopes to see extended family and friends in the future, though that may require that they voyage to visit him. He also announced in his facebook post that the IRS has seized $36,000 from him. (more…)

Thank You for Your Service, Bradley Manning

This Veterans Day, let us thank an individual whose actions have served all of humanity. Bradley Manning’s liberty has been sacrificed so that the people of Earth would know truth, despite the principle that the truth is the first casualty of war. He occupies a maximum security prison in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where he awaits trial for exposing a naked emperor. Thank you, Bradley Manning, for your loyalty to a higher authority than the gang you were pledged to serve.

Send a letter to Bradley Manning at:

Why You Should Consider Vermin Supreme in 2012

If there’s ever a time to get political, they tell us that this is it. The 2012 imperial, state, and local elections will be held this coming Tuesday, and with them a new era of egomania.

The most overhyped and least important race to the individual voter should be the US presidential election. The individual has the least amount of sway in that race, and change is never more than a hope for the corrupt charmers who accept the deals necessary to privilege oneself to either of the duopoly party’s factions. By his actions more than his words, the first term of Barack Obama shall be judged. And by considering his active advancement of the military industry, both abroad and domestically through the militarization of police, the dear leader is revealed as a shapeshifter whose original, charming facade of representing peace has faded. Today in Concord, Barack revved the crowd to reminders of his ordered hit on Osama Bin Laden, and generally dodged all foreign policy, incorrectly claiming to have ended the war in Iraq, and citing plans just over the horizon to end conflict in Afghanistan.

Though I digress, because the presidential election is not actually about Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. The election is about who the individual voter feels is the most principled and prepared person to undertake the tasks of the almighty office of the US president. Flocking, many people will select from prescribed candidates of the red and blue team. (more…)

With Three Days Left, Barack Romney and Mitt Obama Keep Kicking Through NH

Both official presidential candidates, Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, will be spending the days leading up to the election appearing and speaking in New Hampshire. Tomorrow morning in Concord, the Obama will be appearing at a ticketed event with none other than former US president Bill Clinton. Monday evening, the night before the election, Mitt Romney will be cohosting an event at the Verizon Colosseum with Kid Rock. The red-and-blue team duo have been traveling the country extensively, appearing with various celebrities who endorse their respective candidacies. The news blog Cleveland.com posted a story today that an underadvertised campaign appearance and concert with Barack Obama featuring Stevie Wonder had less than 200 attendees. A security perimeter has already been established downtown for the Concord event tomorrow morning. It’s comical that such a massive security event as a presidential appearance can be executed without an event promoter catching on to the lack of marketing.

Fourth party presidential candidate Vermin Supreme has confirmed earlier tonight in an appearance on Free Talk Live that he will be live and in person outside of the Romney event scheduled for Monday evening.

Meanwhile in Concord, chalk has already been laid out for the two presidents primed to appear tomorrow morning. (more…)
