Welcome to FreeKeene.com. You may want to start here, then see what we’re about and explore the site. If you already know and love liberty and are ready to do something about it, please consider moving here to Keene, or at least to New Hampshire as part of the Free State Project.

I attended the Liberty Forum in Concord, New Hampshire in February of 2007 to find out what the Free State Project was all about. I wanted to meet people with similar views to mine – to actually know first-hand that there were others in the world like me – and to see the state, experience what winter was like, and get a feel for the cities in New Hampshire. I decided I liked it here; there were more liberty-loving people – very active ones – than I imagined, and I thought that living amongst them would be enjoyable.
But, while I had a strong understanding of the principles of liberty and a strong opinion about the way things “should” be, I had never acted on my beliefs before. I had never passed out FIJA literature, I had never refused to cooperate with a law enforcement officer, I had always filed my taxed, etc. I hadn’t even tried to educate my family (well, I gave up after a few futile arguments). Being active towards the achievement of liberty and towards educating others about it was completely foreign to me.

Mike first began solidifying his ideas and principles at the relatively late age of 27, when he first started reading Ayn Rand. Thinking he had finally learned “the answer” to the meaning of life, he researched more and more about liberty, discovered the Free State Project, and realized there were indeed like-minded people in the world! Prior to moving to New Hampshire form California in late 2008, Mike had never done any activism. He had never stood up for his rights, had never refused to cooperate with police or judges, had never tried to educate anyone about liberty. Things have changed. His most important change so far has been to learn that he was wrong: he did not know “the answer.” He is still learning, every day, from so many friends and other sources, that there are very many “the answers” – one for every individual person – and that voluntaryism is a peaceful philosophy in harmony with that idea.
Editor’s note: Mike is an honorary blogger as he doesn’t actually live in the Keene area, but he’s constantly involved in Keene-area activism, including being the talented organizer of Free Keene Fest. See more on the Bloggers page.

There are so many liberty activists working behind the scenes at Free Minds TV that they have launched their own spoof/spin off, “FreeK Minds TV”. Enjoy the inane banter of hosts Tobias and Mocknick as well as phone calls from God:

This is an email between myself and one of the Keene, NH city councilors, Cynthia Georgina, who runs a local radio show on Saturday mornings called Talkback. It’s an interesting look into the reality of so many who believe in government, and the misunderstandings that keep them from embracing the principles of liberty. I recently shared one of my favorite movies, and this story is the discussion that resulted.

First off, Sam, thanks for “Pleasantville”. We finally watched it Friday night. . . .As I said, I’ll donate the DVD to the Keene Public Library so many other people can enjoy it if you don’t want it back. Anyway, we both enjoyed the film. I’m sure there’s some relevance to the Free State movement, and I really didn’t “get” that. But it was enjoyable!
Pleasantville is a story about change and how people choose to respond to change. The parallels to the FSP for me are numerous. Let’s explore the movie a bit and see if I can point out a few observations and correlations for you:
- Have you ever tried to describe color to someone who only knows black and white? What method would you use to explain red to someone who only knows shades of light and dark? (more…)

Sam is a native Texan who embarked on a journey to discover himself and in the process, came across the message of liberty. Sam lived the American dream everyone said he should have, complete with: a high paying corporate job, a new car, a big house, 401k, frequent vacations around the world, and still something wasn’t right. Life had lost it’s luster, despite following everyone’s advice. A series of personal effectiveness trainings combined with the right people, events, and influences, began transforming his life from unhappy corporate lackey to activist, filmmaker, and entrepreneur. Today, Sam runs OTN Productions, The Obscured Truth Network, he’s a board member for CD Evolution, and he volunteers time to advance the liberty movement in various ways.
