Keene’s not the only hot activist destination, Manchester, the “big city” is as well. Though, you wouldn’t know it from the blog activity there. Here are some folks who are moving now, expounding on why they think Manchester is pretty spiffy:
Tomorrow morning we’re heading out on a seven day journey that ends in Manchester, New Hampshire. Tonight I want to address why we chose to land in Manchester and not any of the other NH hubs of Free Stater activity. I think every place has its pros and cons, and I also realize that I currently have an outsider’s perception of NH and things could very well change once we’ve been there a while, but here goes!
Manchester is the biggest city in New Hampshire, with a population of about 110,000. The other sizeable cities are Nashua and Concord, which are both an under-30-minute drive from Manchester. Adam grew up in Southern California and has never lived in a small city or town. (more…)
Kate was found guilty of “resisting” by a Manchester Superior Court jury today. Her previous “sentence” from district court was 90-days suspended for two-years. Her new “sentence” is 30-days suspended for 30-days.
It’s good that the threat hanging over her head is now lessened and that outreach was done and ideas shared but bad that Kate had to even allocate any of her time to such a situation.
On June 4th, 2011 eight ‘shire-based activists were arrested while at a pro-police accountable rally outside the Manchester, NH PD (603-668-8711). The incident became known as the Chalking 8. One of the eight arrested was Kate Ager.
Kate had been heading to Manchester to visit a friend. On the way, she learned that her friend had been arrested outside the Manchester Police Department so that’s where she headed. She parked and as she approached, saw a number friends holding signs as well as a number of Manchester PD employees nearby.
Eighty-seconds after stepping onto the sidewalk she was asked by Manchester police employee John Patti to “get off the chalk.” Ten seconds after that, when attempting to ask a question about the order, she was given her “last chance.” Ten seconds after that Patti told Kate that she was “under arrest” as he and colleagues swarmed Kate, handcuffed her, and put her in a cell.
Hero and first-responder, “Number 1” pulls me over to save me from my dangerous car, which has not been subjected to the “inspection” process by state agents in HIS “state.” For not responding to this quickly enough, I have been informed that even though I have a valid PA license, if I drive my car in “the State of New Hampshire,” I will be kidnapped and have my car stolen by agents of the state. Why? Because they’re not sure if my car is “safe.” I do not appreciate this level of “concern.” Would YOU voluntarily pay for this man to spend his day extorting money out of peaceful people for “crimes” involving no victim?
The “bitter feud between two Shire cities” takes a new form, creating a schism which threatens to ridicule anyone who would take such a thing seriously — the Gay Dance Off!
Andre, from Manchester, and Derrick, from Keene, competed in 3 rounds to win the accolades of the audience and the judges: J. Buzz Webb of Buzz’s Big Gay Dance Party fame, Neal Conner, co-host of Flaming Freedom, and token hetero Mike Ruff, the Porcupine Mediator.
