Parking Tickets and the “Consent of the Governed” Part 4

The next chapter in my parking ticket saga has been written. As you may recall from Part 3, I have been attempting to get the Keene police to answer some basic questions about my alleged obligation to obey their laws and statues. I had written to KPD’s captain Kenneth Meola asking my questions and he refused to answer (see the PDF), saying:

I reviewed the questions you posed in hopes of trying to draft responses that you would find logical and convincing, but the very nature of your questions precludes that. Your view on these matters is obvious, and I’m confident I could not convince you otherwise.

Apparently, Meola, who is very nice about his refusal to respond and also very pleasant in person, feels no obligation to answer simple questions about the system he has insisted I am a part of. Because of his non-responsiveness, I am going up the chain to the police chief, Arthur Walker. Here is my letter to him, which I will be hand-delivering on Monday: (more…)

Video of Bureaucrats Removing Signs and Flag from Statue and Commentary

Thanks to Lauren Canario:

In response to my discourse on the so called “Civil War”, AnnAmazedReader wrote this in the comments:

Debates regarding the circumstances under which the secession of a town, city, county, state or region from a larger “entity” are potentially interesting, although I would imagine that any enemy of the FSP would welcome the project’s members waxing verbose about the North’s engagement with the South in our Civil War being essentially evil. Arguing on behalf of a region’s supposedly inalienable right to treat human beings as chattel (while making the childish analogy between said chattel and American citizens in our time) on the basis of the sanctity of property rights is probably not a winner, folks. Unless you are actually 1) trying to undermine the movement, or 2) fundamentally non-serious and more inclined towards attention-getting stunts and rhetoric. Sorry.

Well-meaning Americans like Ann have been seriously misinformed. It wasn’t necessary to fight wars to abolish slavery in other parts of the world. (more…)

Heroic Activists Add Signs and Flag to Keene Statue on Central Sq!

One early morning this past weekend in Keene, NH, the statue of the Civil War Union thug at Central Square was adorned with a upside-down American flag and two signs reading, “FREE ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS” and “FREE SAM DODSON AND ANDREW CARROLL”. Odds are very good this story never made it to the Sentinel or WKBK and reports say it took a fire truck and the police to remove the Union killer’s new accessories. Here’s the proof it happened:
Statue with signsPerhaps the history buffs that love a statue worshiping men who blindly killed their fellow man at the orders of a power-crazed madman (Lincoln didn’t free the slaves with the Emancipation Proclamation, contrary to what you may have been told in govt high school.) should take this statue for their private collection. It’s an embarrassment to Keene and should come down when we secede, as it is nothing more than a symbol of arbitrary power and depravity. The Civil War wasn’t about freeing slaves as much as it was forcing people who didn’t wish to be in an organization (the union) to participate. Little has changed, except the plantation has gotten larger and we are all on it. It’s time for the slaves (us) to realize their situation, speak the truth to our fellow slaves, and refuse to obey. (Preferably here in NH and in Keene) (more…)

Sam’s response to “Sit Down and Shut Up”

I’m writing in response to Keene Sentinel columnist Michael Schuman’s story titled “Will the Free Staters Please Sit Down?” I must admit, a couple of years ago, before coming to understand the message of liberty, I would have agreed with Schuman’s opinions.

Schuman’s views are consistent with what many would describe as main stream America. Unfortunately many of his ideas are based in ignorance and misunderstanding that stems from a lack of critical thinking. Like most of us, Schuman probably attended government indoctrination centers where school children are taught to stand on their X, respect authority, and do as you’re told without question.

Take a look at the pledge of allegiance. How many other countries have one? How many of you know it was written by Fancis Bellamy, a National Socialist (Nazi) flag salesman, to “instill a strong belief in the state.” Dont believe me? Look it up on the internet. You’re likely to find the same picture I did of school children doing a Roman salute – the same one Hitler’s army used – before that was changed after WWII.

Schuman’s description of a classical libertarian is severely flawed and his examples display an ignorance of private property vs. individual rights.

Response to, “Sit Down and Shut Up”.

Submitted to the Keene Sentinel:

There is so much misinformation in Michael Schuman’s recent opinion piece, “Will the Free Staters please sit down?”, I felt the record should be set straight. First, let’s actually define what a “Free Stater” is:

The Free State Project (FSP) is an organization that promotes the idea that liberty-minded people move to New Hampshire and get active. A “Free Stater” is nothing more than a liberty activist, and could even be from NH. Schuman, incidentally, is from Connecticut.

Schuman claims the NH Free Press is a “media outlet” of the FSP. The NH Free Press is a newspaper run by two liberty activists, but the FSP has no control over what activists do when they get here. No one ordered me to respond to Schuman’s ill-informed piece; I didn’t ask permission from, and nor do I speak for the FSP. Russell and Kat Kanning, the publishers of the NH Free Press, may consider themselves “9/11 truthers” but I don’t know many liberty activists in the Keene area who feel the same way. We are individuals with divergent beliefs but with the common thread of loving freedom so much that we’re willing to take action for it.

As for his suggestion that liberty activists are akin to the rude person who stood in front of him at a concert once, I certainly haven’t met them all, but those I know are friendly, respectful, and are good neighbors. They also range from small government minarchists to those who are voluntaryists and absolutely oppose the initiation of force against peaceful people. (more…)

A Disturbing Call to WKBK’s “Talkback” 2009-05-09

Radio TowerHear a very disturbing call to WKBK’s Talkback and my response here. Unfortunately, it appears that liberty activist participation in Talkback has fallen off a cliff. Please join us for our weekly listening, chatting, and calling sessions on Saturday mornings from 9a-12p in the Free Keene Chat room. If you’re online, you can listen to Talkback streamed live via the Liberty Radio Network and if you’re in the Keene area you can tune in to WKBK 1290 AM or 104.1 FM. The Talkback discussion thread is here on the Free Keene Forum.
