Join us for Social Sundays, Now 3pm at a New Location!

We’re changing the venue again! The last place was too small and crowded for our needs, as Social Sundays has seen as many as 50 attendees this year. Please note that families are allowed and that under 21s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. How to handle single teens and 20 year olds that do not fit this qualification will be discussed on this forum thread. This event is replacing both events at Fritz and Vendetta.

So please join Free Keeniacs for Social Sundays now starting at 3pm at a new location. See you there!

Social Sundays Moves to Fritz Starting 11/1, Now at 2pm!

FritzKeene’s weekly all-ages social gathering of liberty-minded people is moving to Fritz, “The Place to Eat” at 45 Main St! It’s still happening on Sundays but is now starting at a new time of 2pm.

Why the change so soon? Social Sundays had been taking place 4pm at Vendetta for over a year and the event unfortunately had to be moved to Armadillo’s at 5pm because of Vendetta’s new 21+ policy. Armadillo’s is still a great place to eat and gather, and Social Sundays may expand out there again once the gathering gets too big for Fritz (we may have to just have a block party someday once we hit hundreds), but the reason the event is leaving Armadillo’s for Fritz is because Armadillo’s charged a cover for a band that was to play last Sunday. Mind you, there’s nothing wrong with them doing this, it’s just not conducive to our open-to-the-public Social Sundays event. Turns out that Armadillo’s has bands occasionally play on Sundays and additionally some had complained about the limited adult beverage selection. Considering we want an open event that people don’t have to pay to enter, it was time to move Social Sundays again. (more…)

ToDo: Call WKBK’s Talkback about Kurt this Saturday, 10/17 from 11a-12p!

KurtMark your calendar for 11a-12p, this Saturday 10/17. Last week there was only one call to WKBK’s Talkback about Kurt Hoffman’s imprisoning for 180 days. I called this week, asked what they thought of Burke spending $15,000 to put a man in a cell who just wanted Burke to use the word, “please”, and didn’t get answer from the show’s hosts. (The hosts are Keene city councilors.)

So, let’s be heard and focus on the third hour of the show, 11a-12p. This will give late risers the ability to sleep in and still participate. Get calling info on this thread about how to listen to and call WKBK’s Talkback.

Also, in concert with this we are going to retool the weekly chat session. It used to start at 9am, but that has proven to be quite unpopular as only a handful of people will just pop in and out throughout the three hour show. The chat has been basically dead for months. So, we’re going to reschedule the weekly chat for Saturdays from 11a-12p in the Free Keene chat room. This tightened window should bring more people into the chat at the same time. Please join in to help strategize our calls about Kurt.

Social Sundays Moves to 5pm at Armadillo’s!

As a result of the incredibly popular 4:20 celebrations happening daily in Keene’s Central Square, turnout was way down for this past week’s Social Sundays. Plus, prior to the advent of the 4:20 events, the attendance at Social Sundays tended to ramp up and peak at 5pm. It seems that having Social Sundays begin after the 4:20 celebration would be the best approach. People can show up at 5pm and enjoy Social Sundays and the food at Armadillo’s Burritos after enjoying a nice afternoon toke in Central Square!

So, starting this weekend join us for Social Sundays at Armadillo’s at 82 Main St. starting at 5pm and ending whenever! Get more info on this forum thread.

Social Sundays Moves to Armadillo’s!

Armadillo'sToday as activists attempted to gather at Vendetta for Social Sundays they discovered Vendetta was no longer allowing in people under 21. Vendetta staff apologized and explained it was because their insurance policy only covers people 21 and up. As Social Sundays is an all-ages event, a new location was chosen just down Main St: Armadillo’s Burritos.

Armadillo’s is a liberty activist favorite. They have affordable food, big portions, no table service, adult beverages, and an open, inviting environment. It’s actually appropriate that this change happened at this time. Last week Vendetta had begun to feel a bit cramped as over 40 people were attending Social Sundays! Now at Armadillo’s, we’ll have better deals on food and more floorspace. Sometimes the seating arrangements at Vendetta didn’t really help bring new people into conversations. At Armadillo’s, things are far more spread out – everyone will have easy access to any table’s conversation they’d like to take part in. Plus, people who aren’t alcohol consumers will feel more welcome, with various beverages available.

So, join us for Social Sundays, now starting at 5pm, ending whenever (they close at 7pm), now at Armadillo’s Burritos at 82 Main St. in Keene. Call 603-358-3700 if you are having trouble finding the place, but it’s right next to Railroad Square, the same place we hold Free Keene Fest. Those who have been reading this blog for a while know that one of the coolest things about Armadillo’s is they are always happy to let us use their power for Free Keene Fest. Vendetta is still a great place for adults to consume alcohol, but it’s time for Social Sundays to expand and Armadillo’s is the perfect location.

See you there!
