AP Covers Chuck Weed’s “None Of The Above” Bill

weedThe Associated Press files this report on Keene state rep Chuck Weed’s excellent bill that would add “None of the Above” to all ballots in New Hampshire!

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — A bill that would add the option of choosing “none of the above” on New Hampshire ballots seems like a quintessential proposal for the first-in-the-nation presidential primary state that prides itself on having discerning voters.

But even the measure’s sponsors say it’s probably doomed, with one acknowledging that it would be humiliating for a candidate to be defeated by no one rather than an actual opponent.

Sponsor Charles Weed, D-Keene, says voters should have the chance to express their dissatisfaction with all the candidates for a given office.

“Real choice means people have to be able to withhold their consent,” Weed said. “You can’t do that with silly write-ins. Mickey Mouse is not as good as ‘none of the above.’” (more…)

Video of the Peace Roundtable @ Keenevention 2013

The Peace Roundtable was the most well-attended and controversial event at Keenevention 2013. It ran overtime by nearly a half-hour!

Is peace attainable through violence or is peace the only way? Does self-defense against aggressive state agents just make matters worse for future activists? These questions and many from the audience were discussed at the Peace Roundtable featuring Derrick J Freeman, Ian Freeman, and Chris Cantwell:

BEARCAT Ban Bill Hears from KPD’s Ken Meola

Today’s Monitor published a story which covers the public hearing on a bill designed to curb police militarization by limiting what grants law enforcement agencies can be approved for in New Hampshire. The hearing was attended by the usually mute Keene police chief Kenneth Meola, who praised the BEARCAT’s presence in Keene for its low cost. Check out the story linked below by Kathleen Ronayne:

Copblock Radio’s Eric Freerock on Trial for “Disobeying an Officer” 2014-01-30

During a DUI checkpoint in 2013, Cop Block Radio‘s Eric Freerock was arrested for “Disobeying an Officer”, which translates to not showing his ID fast enough. It was his first arrest and this was his first trial. Unfortunately he doesn’t challenge the main claim against him, that he “refused” to show ID, which he did not, he simply returned the officer’s request with some questions, and was promptly arrested. Sadly, there is no video of their interaction, though I’ll link to other video of the checkpoint below. Here’s the full trial video from Keene district court – it’s also the first activist trial in the fancy new courthouse:

At the end, I confront a confused state trooper, “Jerome” over his threatening of me during the same DUI checkpoint when I attempted to exit a vehicle as a passenger.

KSC’s Equinox Publishes Front Page Robin Hooding Story

Wanted Robin HoodIn a follow up feature story, the Keene State College Equinox paper has published another story, front-page and above-the-fold, about Keene’s Robin Hooders, this time focusing on the appeal by “the City” to the Supreme Court in NH. Here’s the story, thanks to Karina Barriga Albring:

The tension between parking authorities and the free-staters continues as city officials await for a date to appeal the case against Robin Hood of Keene, this time in front of the state Supreme Court.

Keene officials are not happy with the decision Judge John C. Kissinger Jr. made when he dismissed the case the city had presented against six citizens known as “Robin Hooders.”

The city officials claimed the free-staters had allegedly harassed parking enforcement officers. (more…)
