Penn Jillette is one of the biggest endorsements of all time for the Free State Project, and he praises Keene and the liberty activism here. Thanks again to the Boston Globe and Sarah Schweitzer for her great article that inspired Penn to do this video:

Yeah, that looks pretty positive. He never comes out and encourages people to join or says, “I endorse,” but that’s the feeling you get from the video. He did say he may move to NH if he ever retires and that is great news! I remember when John Stossel said the same thing.

“The Free State Project in New Hampshire is really, really cool.”

“I… in my heart want to move to New Hampshire and be in on this.”

“if I ever retire, uh, family and I will move to New Hampshire and, uh join in the fight for more freedom”

    Those are total endorsements.

That’s great! It was good to see him mention the parking meters as I think a lot of people can relate to that.

I wonder how many thousands of new people will hear about The Free State Project and the activism in Keene due to Penns’ coverage (special thanks to the Keene activists who made this story happen now and not later!).

Maybe you and others are correct Ian. Now that I think about it, I am likely wrong. Thanks for correcting me.

Top 436 Totally Not-at-all Contrived Reasons to Move to Seabrook

    by Max

#436 In the video where Penn Jillette endorses the Free State Project and mentions Keene specifically several times and the exciting activism going on there, NOT ONCE does he ever say that Seabrook sucks.

The 427 FSP members ARE NOT ALL anti-govt activists. Create an Anarchy State Project if you guys just want to run around and do anarchy all the time!!!!

The Boston Globe article sucked, all the people getting arrested are not helping us any. It is hurting our cause now and it is going to hurt the cause of liberty in the long run.

Penn, I hope you read this.

That’s right, AED (Andy Demers) because the evidence clearly shows that obedience and begging does so much for advancing liberty.

I think your cause and my cause must be different, because Keene activism is helping my cause of advancing toward a voluntary society. What is your goal, and why are people living freely so dangerous to it?

  9. AED on Wed, 10th Jun 2009 12:58 am

Wow, Ian… try to scare me by using my name! Maybe I should get an alias like so many in the anarchist crowd!

I hardly know you and have never ever had any problems with you. But it’s curious that someone who is such a strong advocate of these tactics, also makes your living from advocating them.

It’s curious that he advocates what he believes on his radio show!?

I don’t know you AD, but perhaps you could consider the great reforms that have been made in U.S. history because of civil disobedience.

I daresay Rosa Parks did not hurt the cause of equality. I daresay the politically involved of her time were made far more effective by the boycott.

People are good at different things — some like civil disobedience, others like politics. Let people do what they enjoy, and are good at, to fight for liberty.

  11. Ian on Wed, 10th Jun 2009 1:51 am

Why would I need to frighten you, Andy? I don’t even know who you are beyond that you’re just another political activist complaining that market-based activists are poisoning the well, and ruining your chances at succeeding in politics.

    Boo-hoo.

All I ever hear from you is complaining. You complain that Keene voluntaryists get attention from the press and bemoan that no press attention is lavished on your political efforts. On the other hand you console yourself by saying that you don’t want attention for what you do, that you just wish voluntaryists would stop being so disobedient so you could get some respect from the advocates of coercion you are attempting to influence.

Now you complain that I profit from advocating liberty.

It all sounds like envy to me.

Perhaps instead of getting so worked up about us voluntaryist types you should just focus on whatever makes you happy. If that’s doing politics, you should just do it, because the voluntaryist kind of activism you so despise is not going to stop until the coercion ends. No amount of caterwauling will dissuade us. Your reaction tells me we’re doing the right thing.

Also, in your attempt to attack my chosen profession, you missed answering my question, which I will now ask again:

What is your goal, and why are people living freely so dangerous to it?

  12. dalebert on Wed, 10th Jun 2009 11:45 am

I’ll repeat what I said when Andy told me “Thanks for nothing.”

Thanx for leaving. Andy has left NH and I say we’re better off without his pessimism poisoning the well. As apolitical as I am, even I had to give kudos to the political activists for recent victories. And in the midst of a recruitment counter that’s moving again and a contagious optimism around the state, and particularly right on the heels of such an encouraging endorsement from a celebrity icon for liberty, it amazes me that you still manage to be pessimistic.

You have a knack for it, obviously. I’m glad you’ve given up on the FSP because we’re just getting rolling and you’re just baggage. Good riddance.

Every action will have its critics. Sorry guys, we cant please everyone.
But in the meantime we will continue to do the things that attract people to the cause of liberty, and continue fighting till we can live liberty as a lifestyle rather than just some cute philosophy. :-)

Penn just did another (very brief) “shout out” to Keeniacs! It’s just before the end of the video, which is a short video anyway.

Wow, that’s awesome. Thanks for the continued heads-ups. He has read the Globe article so we KNOW he’s seen the FreeKeene.com URL.

Still no word from his manager, Glen Alai. :(
