smegMeg moved to New Hampshire from her hometown of Portland, OR after discovering the true nature of government and its harmful effects. She came to Keene with a degree in film production, and the desire to be active in the shift from government violence to a peaceful and consensual society. As a filmmaker, she hopes to capture the passion and courage of those who will be the voices of change, so others will be inspired to take part.

she shoots video you fuckin idiot

Thank you for clearing that up, Captain Obvious. After reading Ian’s confusing post, I found that the phrases “degree in film production” and “As a filmmaker” were lacking in clarity and that she might be a chef or a firefighter.

  5. thinkliberty on Sun, 2nd Aug 2009 3:47 am

“Filmmakers” do more than just shoot video. (In case you don’t realize it.) Because you are ignorant does not make Ian a “fuckin idiot.”

Fucking is spelled with a g. You should look it up, while you are at it you should read about what a “filmmaker” does.

Whoohoo! Another added! She’s a firefighter too? Thats pretty awesome! :P

i don’t want the fact that i’m a blogger here now to be the instigation of e-fighting! everyone just calm down and make some e-love.

    i’ll go get the e-lube.

  11. nick on Sun, 2nd Aug 2009 9:55 am

    Smeg,

You could say “Sheep have wool” and it would be the instigation of e-fighting. Don’t feel bad :)

  13. ELKFARTtheTROLLSLAYER on Sun, 2nd Aug 2009 4:56 pm

SCREW YOU, NICK! Sheep don’t have wool. They have hair. It isn’t wool until some anarcho-farmer shears it off…Where’s this guy SMEG from, and what’s he doing here?…(sorry, Ian, i’m just phishing 4 trolls again…

  14. ELKFARTtheTROLLSLAYER on Sun, 2nd Aug 2009 5:54 pm

seems that with every post ian’s rhetoric more closely imitates the typical schlobomafanatic douche.

oh, and i’m curious how much film she’s shot. modern definition of “filmmaker”: twank with a vidcam and a director’s viewfinder.

    where’s my cigarette holder?

  17. Lpviper on Mon, 3rd Aug 2009 12:51 am

If it was up your ass you’d know it

    DING!

BTW Meg, if you’re the one I think you are, I remember your story and I don’t blame you for moving.

    Have fun in Keene!

    charlie-

true, i do shoot on digital video now; however, my degree is in film, and i have made several shorts, music videos, and features on 16mm b/w reversal and 35mm formats. i have splice edited entire films on old steinbecks, and developed my own film as well. there isn’t much of the process of ‘filmmaking’ or ‘videography’ that i don’t know.

while i myself prefer the look of film over video, it is not an easy or affordable task to capture the footage i would like to get out here in keene. i don’t have the time or money to buy and load up a new 3minute reel of film to do copwatch, or cover an activist’s day in court.

so, i understand it’s an easy attack (a video maker calling themselves a filmmaker! what a joke!) but, in this case, i’m telling the truth.

so, i understand it’s an easy attack (a video maker calling themselves a filmmaker! what a joke!) but, in this case, i’m telling the truth.

no attack, and it appears you are not telling the truth in context. “filmmaker” has become an even more abused and generally pointless term of implied snoot adulation than “concert pianist”, and it’s obvious that you or ian decided to use it even though it does not best describe your situation, especially with FK.

after years of digital movies replacing film viably, “film” in this context now connotes far more than merely working with film. irrelevant whether that’s artistically/aesthetically important; poser hacks around the world assign the term to themselves hoping to receive the weight without the scrutiny. whether you’re a poser hack, it seems the same weight without scrutiny situation has been clawed at here.

appears from what you’ve said (and a quick check of IMDb) that you haven’t done much with film (or a digital production that could believably assume the term) outside of “school”. if someone’s calling you a filmmaker primarily because of a “degree in film production” (ha!), you should for honesty correct them. you are now a video something or other. if you must, throw “filmmaker” around when the weight matches the term.

good news; perhaps with 5–10 more years of hacks calling themselves filmmakers, it won’t matter.

  21. smeg on Sat, 8th Aug 2009 2:39 am

well i guess you got me. i mean, if it’s not on imdb then it must mean i haven’t done anything. or, it could be that you have to have an imdb account under the name used on the film’s crew list, which is not the name i use here.

i don’t feel the need to ‘prove myself’ to anyone out there. i know what i’ve done, and i’m proud of my work… except that 2 1/2 stretch in reality tv. that was all for the money ;) but the feature films, the music videos, the PSAs, the shorts, and all the others i’ve done throughout my life… yeah, i’m damn proud of those.

but now i’ve taken my education in film production (which is an art form that is not defined by the format of the footage, but the processes and rules of production), and i’m putting it to use doing something i’m going to be even more proud of in the end. nothing anyone can say can keep me from achieving that…

especially nothing said by a website comment section troll ;)

i’m not here to bust your balls charlie. just some friendly banter, cause i’m incapable of becoming the slightest bit concerned over someone’s disapproving words via anonymous internet comments.

  22. Zeus on Sat, 8th Aug 2009 2:45 am

Don’t feed the trolls. They’re gluttonous and cranky enough as it is.

    straw man.

    website comment section troll

the usual despicable FK attempt to, with one word, remove negative criticism from consideration. with that and your straw-man hat you’ll fit in well here.

if one day you figure out what “troll” means in the context of the internet, maybe you’ll get straight on “anonymous” as well. long road ahead.

  24. Zeus on Wed, 12th Aug 2009 1:03 am

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional or disciplinary response or otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

That’s you in a nutshell, Charley.

  25. bob on Thu, 20th Aug 2009 8:26 am

Or “sound engineer” or “musician” maybe? You see Smeg, Charley pretends he had a career in music so if he’s trying to call you out on bullshit, he’s speaking from authority.

if one day you figure out what “troll” means in the context of the internet, maybe you’ll get straight on “anonymous” as well. long road ahead.

Charley knows the definition of “troll” very well. He had someone call him out on his bullshit at his own blog. Charley branded this miscreant a “TROLL”. He tried to deal with this troll by claiming to have installed IP tracking software. When that didn’t work, he removed commenting altogether.

The funny thing is, he declared victory!, claiming that the IP tracking software worked, omitting the tiny detail that commenting was no longer allowed.

So you see folks, while he stopped allowing anyone from commenting at his blog, he likes to come here and be a pain in the ass. He can dish it, but he can’t take it.

You’d make a great cop, Charley.

Charley, what about the terms “sound engineer” or “musician”? Smeg, you can trust Charley knows what he’s talking about. He pretends to have had a career in music. What is it about never-has-beens that they get pleasure in trying to call the kettle black?

if one day you figure out what “troll” means in the context of the internet, maybe you’ll get straight on “anonymous” as well. long road ahead.

Also folks, Charley is an expert on trolls. At his own blog, he kept getting called out on his bullshit, so he installed IP tracking software to try and nab the troll. He then proclaimed to have defeated the troll, claiming the IP tracking software did the trick, but he failed to mention that he quietly removed the ability to comment on his blog altogether. So instead of dealing with comments on his own site, he comes here to tick people off.

He can dish it, but he sure can’t take it.

You’d make an excellent cop, Charley.
