It simply cannot be said enough. Unless you’re saying “am I being detained” or “I do not consent to a search” you should remain PERFECTLY SILENT! I can think of countless situations where I’ve arrested people simply because they answered my questions. Had they not have… they would have not been arrested. Boy was I fortunate that these people didn’t know their rights… as you now do or did.
Talking to the police will not help you… it will hurt you. You can always talk to the police AFTER you’ve discussed what they want to talk to you about with an attorney. The attorney will determine if your statement will either help or hurt you.

Thank you to the wonderful blog Checkpoint USA for re-posting this video.
I’d welcome any of our active law enforcement readers to provide their opinions in the comment section of this blog.
JARDIS: Unless you mis-wrote, you said you "can think of countless situations where I’ve(you've) arrested people simply because they answered my questions. Had they not have… they would have not been arrested."….YOU ARRESTED PEOPLE SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY ANSWERED (my)YOUR QUESTIONS???…WHAT KIND OF MONSTER ARE YOU, Jardis???…How the fuck do you justify "advocating freedom" on here??? Did I miss your confession, admission of guilt, and sentence to pennance???…Or can I aresst you if you answer my questions, too? Really? You people haven't thought about things like this???…Strange.
JARDIS: Unless you mis-wrote, you said you “can think of countless situations where I’ve(you’ve) arrested people simply because they answered my questions. Had they not have… they would have not been arrested.”….YOU ARRESTED PEOPLE SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY ANSWERED (my)YOUR QUESTIONS???… Questions that uncover victimless "criminal" activity. Example: Q: "Do you have anything illegal in your car?" A: "Yes, officer." Bam. Now I've probable cause to arrest/search. WHAT KIND OF MONSTER ARE YOU, Jardis??? Like all police officers… I've attacked countless amounts of peaceful people. I regret what I did, I'm sorry for it, and I hope more police officers will… Read more »
That lawyer is a fucking idiot. "Talking to the police" is NEVER the problem. What the police then DO, is the problem. What the Courts then do, is the problem. The COPS-n-COURTS are the problem. Just TALKING to the cops-n-courts is NOT the problem. What the cops-n-courts DO is the problem. The cops-n-courts are no more, no less, than INSTITUTIONALIZED, LEGAL INSANITY & PSYCHOSIS. (You're fucking crazy if you think I'm going to ever again play your cops-n-courts game….
…sorry if you thought I was being too hard on you Jardis. We're arguing for many, many, many other's eyes, aren't we?…I'd be mildly disappointed, for example, to learn that MEOLA has ordered all KPD Officers to never visit FREEKEENEblog. I rather enjoy the thought of the Keene Police Persecutor/prosectuors' panties getting in a bunch reading this. "Yes, your honor, it was my intention to cause Mr. Rivera' s panties to bunch up while he reads my words" -HAH!…But, you & I are not arguing AGAINST each other, are we? I don't think so. You know I love you, Jardis.… Read more »
"Do you have anything illegal in your car?" = "Have you committed a crime?"…Yes=yes. ME? I have never, nor will I ever, commit a crime, nor break a law. I can never be arrested for committing a crime, can I? Gee, words sure are powerful….
But, you & I are not arguing AGAINST each other, are we? I don't think so. You know I love you, Jardis. Absolutely sir 🙂 Your arguments I think are very helpful to the people reading the commentary here…. and I thank you for it 🙂 There is absolutely nothing any police chief can do about an officer coming here and expressing an opinion. Everything we discuss is a matter of "public concern" and thus is protected speech for government employees. Furthermore, if any officer came here, expressed opinions (not even necessarily ones we agree with), and I heard that… Read more »
Makes sense to me. Dialogue should never be a concern. Resulting actions are the concern.
Logically, what you're saying is sound. It's as logical as the fact that natural law dictates that you not be robbed by an armed robber.
Were you to be robbed by said armed robber… I suggest you submit else practically you'll probably be hurt.
Were you to be questioned by a police officer… I suggest you remain silent, appealing to the same practicality…. else you'll also end up hurt.
KEENENATIVE-you really should have put the disclaimer in the beginning of your post-where should I send the royalties?Do you accept gold bullion? Also, you are completely right that the entire system is a game.Once a person realises that,it then becomes a personal choice of pass or play.I still enjoy playing, though it does get tiring.I can see where I will reach the point where I will also decide not to play at all.Meanwhile,I try not to play by their rules. Do I have to send the money/gold to both you and Bradley,or should I deliver it to you,and you can do the… Read more »
Either way, bil. Whatever works for you. To me, that precious GOLD is just shiny metal dug from the flesh of our Mother Earth. Gold itself has no value to me. I'd rather have a cheeseburger. The Buffalo Burgers at Port Authority Cafe, & Fritz's, both here in Downtown Keene, are absolutely to DIE FOR! YUMMY! Fritz's even has a local NH source for their Bison meat. Port Authority Cafe has a Mid-West U.S. source. Both are excellent choices.

MMMM-Fritzs Fries! Glad you mentioned that the Port Authority Cafe was here in Keene-I have eaten at the one in NYC.Not for weak stomaches. —bil
MMMM-Fritzs Fries! Wasn't Fritz the one who booted the FK crew out? I was in Fritz recently and observed several law violations. (all violations, no misdemeanors… Yes, I am a law nerd. Yes, I've essentially memorized all of the NH laws… yes I am sick this way.) I found it slightly humorous that Fritz would expel a group of people who wish to make it impossible for the government to attack them for the silly laws that I found their establishment to be violating. Perhaps only after the owner falls subject to enforcement of such silly rules would she come… Read more »
Not true anymore – you must now invoke your right to remain silent by saying so!

DEPT. of CORRECTIONS ALERT: NOT >THAT< Port Authority at all!…NO!…Keene's Port Authority Cafe is in the Bus Station building – itself an old train station. It is a one-man operation, w/a few employees. Lots of stainless steel, and a nice outdoor seating area. I know they do a good lunch business. It's a good addition to Keene. Having once been through the NY Port Authority, I agree, THAT's A GREASY SPOON!…Keene's P.A.C. is almost UPSCALE, but still a little funky/keeney…very nice place…
