Threatening Violence Against Public Officials Is Wrong

I’m on my way to the post office to send the following three letters to high ranking law enforcement officers in New Hampshire regarding the online comments of a threatening tone made against Judge Burke.

- United States Attorney for the District of New Hampshire Kacavas
- New Hampshire Attorney General Delaney
- Cheshire County Attorney Heed
- Administrative Office of the Courts Director Goodnow

I believe the threatening rhetoric involved is protected speech under Brandenburg v. Ohio, 395 U.S. 444 (1969) as it doesn’t seem to infer imminent lawless action, but using or threatening violence is unacceptable in a civilized society.

If I was the troll that posted those comments I'd be laughing hysterically right now. You've just made three separate articles about the same issue, and its likely wasted hours of your time writing those letters and responding to posts.

Who's to say that the troll wasn't posting behind TOR anyway?

    Cliffs:

    You got trolled.

  • yada yada yo

    Jardis posted it.

It was a Youtube account, right?

Do people actually put their real information when they sign up? I know I didn't.

I don't really see this compliant going anywhere, unless the person was dumb enough to put their real information. Even so, I highly doubt the government will want to go through the process of extraditing and convicting somebody over a couple lines on a youtube video.

I honestly don't see the purpose in reporting this, unless Jardis is trying to prove how anti-violence (and holier-than-thou) he is to everyone.

Stories about heinous criminals and their infamous crimes are common online…

Typically, the comments section will be full of various gruesome ways the criminal should be killed as "justice"…

That is no different than a single comment about Burke, in a similar online

    context.

If the security apparatus wants a peak at the guys IP & data, well,

isn't THAT the edge of a slippery slope…

If the guy – assuming gender – posts additional comments evincing an intention, or desire to act, that also would be a different case.

I'm wondering if Jardis isn't giving the comment more traction than it would otherwise have had.

Perhaps it is Jardis who should be charged for spreading and propagating

the comment far beyond the publicity and notice that would otherwise

    have been the case…

Perhaps some lone wolf nutjob will hear the bru-ha-ha over this comment,

and being encouraged to act by Jardis's publicizing of comment…

    See where this could go?

Perhaps it would be best if Burke just stpes down from the bench.

YO! Gov'ner Lynch, when you leave office next Jan., PLEASE

Take out the trash – TAKE BURKE OUT, TOO!…

    But that's just my opinion.

Wow….so let me get this straight…..You're running to the criminal organization called the State, to let them know, that something someone wrote could possibly be construed to be a threat against one of their agents. Is this one of their agents that controls men with guns who often rob men of life, liberty, and property? And what do you hope to acheive by this? Would you like to see these agents find this person, and use the powers of their criminal organization to teach them a lesson? What would that lesson be, and how would they be sure this person learns their lesson?

If you were in Afganhistan, and some one said the leader of the Taliban should be shot and killed, would you run and let the Taliban know…..

If a store owner felt he was getting a bad deal by having to pay off the Mafia for the right to do business, and then said the Godfather should be shot and killed, would you then run to the Mafia and let them know…….

I'm sure at some point before the mass murders were known to the world, someone probably said, Ya know, Hitler should be shot and killed, and I bet some busy body went and told………

I agree with Sam Robin on this. I thinks it's shit house nuts, and you are really discrediting yourself. This is the fundamental problem in society I thought you were for changing, the problem of, " I don't like what you did or said, I'm calling the Authoritarian Overloards(Cops)"

Like I said Wow! What does Ian think of this? This is his website and I've listened to him for a few years now, This doesn't sound like a deal he would agree with….Anyway I've been reading Brads writings a couple of years now as well, thought he had seen the light….Guess not.

Hereis a qoute from your last blog entry….

I’m on my way to the post office to send the following three letters to high ranking law enforcement officers in New Hampshire regarding the online comments of a threatening tone made against Judge Burke….

So, it's your job now to notify the criminal agents of the state, not of just real threats, but also online comments of a threating tone! Are you fucking serious! You might as well just go back to being a cop.

  • daniel

    Here's just one more qoute…

"I believe the threatening rhetoric involved is protected speech under Brandenburg v. Ohio, 395 U.S. 444 (1969) as it doesn’t seem to infer imminent lawless action, but using or threatening violence is unacceptable in a civilized society."

So you admit that in your own belief system, this person was exercizing free protected free speech, yet your still going to the violent men with guns because you didn't like what he said….Your in the wrong man, it's not to late to admit your errors, we all error at times. It's during these times of error that we need the community to point them out to us and forgive us. I

    OK Brad,

Thought I'd just leave alone your reaction to this "incident". But, it apparently lives on….

    To summarize,

Brad sees a "threat" published on someone else's YouTube account. He then writes a police report to everyone, short of god, in the law enforcement hierarchy.

Perhaps, the first course of action should have been to approach the person whose YouTube account the comment was published on. That person could have deleted it. End of stupid troll comment. As it doesn't seem to be an actual threat to anyone's safety, problem solved.

Instead now there is confirmation, data points, that Burke's safety is indeed in jeopardy.

If you drove by someone's building that had the same words graffiti'd on the wall… would you call the cops and everyone in to "investigate" or perhaps you talk to the owner that someone has published a threat on his building… the owner then can take a can of paint to the offensive words.

No instead the whole forensic team is called to examine the evidence and interrogate the owner.

If this had been a comment on your website, or blog, perhaps you might have taken the course you took (I think some other course first would have been best).

But you have taken on "protecting" the community… old habits are hard to break.

Jardis is only carrying on the Kanning Tradition of policing other folks justified anger and reactions. Nothing new to see here.

    1. no one even knew about this comment until you freaked out about it. you turned a "nothing" into a "something".

    2. there are literally millions of comments like this on youtube- and thats why no one gives a shit about this.

    3. what are you trying to accomplish? getting this guy in trouble for a youtube comment?

    please conclude this pointless saga.

  • Chase

btw burke is a criminal and absolutely deserves repercussions for his behavior. why not focus on that, rather than distracting people with this non-issue?

  • david

yea.threatening is always bad…..its best to just quietly DO..without fanfare.. :-)

"Threatening Violence Against Public Officials is Wrong"….

(…but, when public officials threaten violence against the people – well –

    that's OK…)…

  • Freedom_Fighter

All that tells the government is that no matter how they come after you, you will not defend yourself. That they can go ahead and disregard the law as they always do and you will cower down and lick their boots beause you will submit. They can and will use acts of violence against you because they know people will not do anything about it, least of all you. With your line of thinking, the jews should have just submitted, I mean after all, the nazi's were the authorities. No matter what torture they put jews through, they better not raise one hand to defend themselves. It's people like you Jardis why dictators and corrupt governments are able to come to power and mass kill millions of people.

  • david

aaaaa quote "It’s people like you Jardis why dictators and corrupt governments are able to come to power and mass kill millions of people."

    yea its all brad's fault….lol

Hey, Bradley Jardis, has ANYBODY from the "state" contacted you, regarding your "report"…???…

Well, I didn't think so, but thought I would check…

Funny, I didn't think Burke was competent enough

to do anything that would warrant extra security…

I still think Burke should be shot and killed, but only because

YOU, Jardis, have made such a big deal out of nothing…

Yes, Bradley Jardis PAID me to write that about Burke…

    (…you gonna REPORT this, aren't you…???…
