73 Days, Over $5,986, and Counting…

TaxesKeene, 07/12/09 – With the arrest and imprisoning of freedom to travel activist Kurt Hoffman on the same day video-journalist Dave Ridley was released from Cheshire jail, the agents of the violent monopoly called the “State of New Hampshire” have spent nearly $6,000 stolen dollars on jailing peaceful activists. As it costs over $30,000 per year to imprison someone in NH, that’s at least $82 per day. Combining the jail terms for Sam Dodson, Andrew Carroll, and Dave Ridley brings us to 73 days this year-to-date. Each day Kurt is in will be another on the counter, and another $82.

Of course, at any given time the Cheshire jail contains a varying number of people who, while not activists, are also peaceful political prisoners of the insane War on Drugs as well as the traffic revenue and obedience system. Without a breakdown of current prisoners and their charges, there is no way to calculate how many more thousands of dollars it costs to keep these “consensual criminals” imprisoned, but it’s a lot more than what they are spending to steal the freedom of the activists.

In total, this system is a human tragedy on a mass scale. With more new victimless crime laws passed every year, it’s only getting worse, not better.

Mass civil disobedience efforts are in discussion phases. How many jail cells will they fill and how many lives will they harm before they finally leave peaceful people alone? Time will tell. They could stop now, but they will likely continue to show the world how vicious they can be, encouraging more to move here to Keene sooner, and end this reign of terrorism against peaceful human beings.
