Keene native Jared Goodell again had me on as a guest this week on his morning show in Manchester on WFEA 1370 & 99.9. This time, we discussed the recent lawsuit by the NH ACLU against the City of Manchester regarding their arrests of panhandlers.
I told Jared that the City of Manchester will be losing the suit, as they have across the United States. I don’t like panhandling, but as long as we have the idea of public property, free speech must be respected, and that includes asking for money. However, the solution to panhandling is changing all public property to private property. Here’s the full interview:
The ACLU does not have a good win record when they file lawsuits. You said, “I told Jared that the City of Manchester will be losing the suit, as they have across the United States”. Please prove this statement. Basically you have no insight or input about this lawsuit because you are an outside observer who only knows as much as everyone else.
@RunningWolfKenpo
City of Manchester is going to lose in Federal Court.. US Supreme Court ruled in 2015 that panhandling is protected by 1st Amendment…

Federal courts protecting certain essential rights and freedoms are a good example to the Libertarian and Conservative alarmists who have for years mistakenly claimed “all federal government is bad”.
Tom Southern If those people are causing problems which they are, they can be removed. Pretty straight up
Ian, you are a stupid poopy head! Take your crab lice infested hippies to Los Angeles, where nobody will notice the stench coming from your group and the cops will SWAT raid you for selling your dirty raw milk. Or how about returning to Orange County, Florida. They use SWAT teams to enforce the barber license codes down there. You can’t have freedom unless the poor are afraid of the cops.
@Jacks, All involved were non-aggressive and peaceful. It doesn’t sound like you’ve read any the details of the case which involves a peaceful Army and Navy Veteran…

City of Manchester is going to lose this one and they won’t be the first…

Tom Southern – When it comes to public safety these people will be evicted.
Would you consider me laying on the horn til the next drivers move disorderly conduct or disturbing the peace? Would you defend my right to do that?
