Watch it,guys-you were standing in a travel lane, and loitering.Neither one is official business,be thankful you got off easy this time! Nice video, too bad there were no donuts involved! —bil

When I first saw vids of cops walking away from an activist filming them, I used to get bugged about it.

Not anymore. I see it as cops walking away in shame from their misdeeds. If enough people see the show, then their "cop as helper/constant good guy" paradigm is shattered, possibly for good. Their authority is under question, their legitimacy then dubious.

There's a lot to like about that.

Chris

What about the cops who always takes one of the three spaces between the bank and Amicci's pizza? Every damn time I go to Amicci's (once a week) all the spaces are taken and one of them is always a Keene cop?

Onederbred

He seemed to be taking it upon himself to make sure that retail establishment was ready to deal with any small fires in and around the store. Being that he was checking fire related details, he was of course allowed to park in the fire lane. You can't blame him for being suckered in by low low prices as he did so.

I would like to defend the Keene Police on this one.

It looks like he was at Wal-Mart purchasing motor oil or something like that. The way they parked in front of Wal-Mart is something that I personally did in front of Wal-Mart numerous times.

There is an exception allowed by law for emergency vehicles…….. and parking close is reasoned by if there is a need for an emergency response the vehicle should be close-by.

I think there are much better reasons to point out the government is misbehaving than parking somewhere.

IHateCops

Bradley, I'm sorry, but purchasing motor oil is not an emergency situation. If someone else had to buy motor oil they would be ticketed for parking there. Those rules are designed for say, if the store was being robbed, then a police officer could park there to stop the robbery, that would be an emergency situation. However, the need for motor oil is not imminent, therefore he can park in a regular spot and walk. That way if there is REAL emergency like a fire, then a real emergency vehicle, like a fire truck can park there and save lives.… Read more »

I didn't say it was an emergency. It is an "emergency vehicle" as defined by law.

I agree it doesn't look good. I just don't think parking locations of government vehicles is a good example of government abuse/misconduct.

I respect your opinions, though 🙂

Highline

Excuse me. By law I meant "statue."

Pete Eyre

@Bradley, you stated "I think there are much better reasons to point out the government is misbehaving than parking somewhere."

Sure, I'd love to allocate my time to things that are admittedly not so trivial, but it just so happened that this example presented itself. The interaction underscored the double-standard that this person believes exists for he and his colleagues (who earn their wealth through the political means) have compared to those without pieces of metal on their costume.

We must speak out against all such actions.

Adam Mueller

So why are cops taking emergency vehicles to get supplies? I mean if the chance of an 'emergency' is so high, shouldn't they do this with a different vehicle? Or at best the officer should be on patrol then. One thing the state isn't short on is people with needless jobs, they could send a clerk or someone of less importance. Take your pick from the endless pool of worthless jobs in the system maybe the Cop Shop car person? The fact of the matter is police feel they can do what they want because they don't have to fear… Read more »

I think the theory here is that the cop might get called to an emergency call while he's in Wal-Mart and have to run back out to his car, jump in, and speed off to help put out the fire at Dunkin Donuts or whatever the emergency is.

Tom

You guys are amazing. Last I knew Wallie World didn't deliver supplies to. You complain about property taxes, do you think our taxes can afford an extra vehicle to go and get maintenance supplies instead of using a police car? Now some are going to suggest he should have used his personal vehicle… so if it was for business supplies why would you use a personal vehicle? They can park there because by statue (government plate) they are a designated as an emergency vehicle. Should an emergency arise somewhere else in the city, the few officers on duty need to… Read more »

Tom,

I agree with you.

I have, however, the utmost respect the opinion of my friends…. however I believe this matter is not a good example to use.

I agree it doesn't look good though.

I used to park like this all the time when at Wal-Mart processing shoplifters, getting supplies, etc. The purpose was so that I could leave quickly if called away.

Brill Blackburn

Bradley, I respect & agree with most of your commentary on this site, but I've got to disagree with you on this one. While the statute allows "emergency vehicles" to park there, the spirit of the law is clearly intended for vehicles responding to actual emergency situations. The purpose of the Fire Lane is so fire trucks can pull up in a hurry & take action, since it's not feasible for firefighters to lug water-logged hoses across the parking lot. Also, paramedics would have access if someone in the store had a heart attack. What would've happened if fire trucks… Read more »

Yeah, maybe the parking was an issue, but that cop should have returned the shopping cart correctly. How rude of him.

Gabe

Bradley and IHateCops – you both make good points.

Here's something you didn't think of though. Maybe the motor oil was needed in order to help the officer apprehend a robbery in progress.

bil

Good point,Gabe! With the close tolerances in todays high-powered engines, any shortage of the proper lubrication could lead to engine failure at a critical point, allowing fleeing robbers to escape,or the donuts to get cold.Always make sure you check your oil,and keep a spare quart in the trunk! —bil

Tom

The officers probably feel it is easier to just shut up and drive off then argue with you. You see, you twist the guy until he says something wrong and you can use it against them.

Same as taking a video and editing the footage to replay same moments over and over… sensationalizing it.

bil

You mean like the 'Hitler Jig' famous propoganda during WW II? —bil

On labor day, I parked on a fire lane in front of my sister's house in HOA community and it got towed. I had to pay $263 to get it back. I am 9 months pregnant and I had to park close to unload groceries for her. She is fighting cancer so I went shopping for her. Their visitor parking is too far to carry groceries. My tummy is too big. In a matter of minutes, the car got towed. I know this because I remember what time I got back and whtat time the car got towed. I mean… Read more »
