The courageous Andrew Carroll announced earlier this week that he will be possessing marijuana in Downtown Keene this January 10th. Here is the Ridley Report‘s interview with Andrew:

A thought for Andrew, if he sees this.
Hold the marijuana in one hand, and a different plant that has no laws regarding it in the other, like a dandilion, or a rose, something like that. That will help show the absurdity of how one peice of vegitation can land you in jail but the other doesn't.
Mr. Springer's comment just hit me the wrong way. Calling j. Andrew Carroll a WASPy name just screams ignorance to ethic differences. White Anglo-Saxon Protestant in reference to an Irish surname of CARROLL. I realize you may not know the name is Irish and quite possibly even young Mr. Carroll doesn't care about his heritage but sir I do. Mr. Springer my family was made to leave their country account of their rebelious acts against Anglo Saxon occupation of their land all because my family was Catholic. Mr. Springer you would at least have to correct someone if they thought… Read more »
FYI, one of your Keene State Reps is on "our" side. he's sticking his neck out — you might want to thank him.

He also submitted an LSR repealing the death penalty. I think I like this guy 🙂

Steve is a free-stater-friendly socialist. Nice guy.
A free-stater friendly socialist? Does he realize we believe that socialism is directly responsible for hundreds of millions of needless deaths all around the world, or that he's a violent, authoritarian thug?
I remember my comment about Andrews Carroll's WASPy name, but now I don't see it. Did it get deleted? If so, why?
I didn't mean to offend anybody. My ancestor Micum McIntire, a Scot was taken prisoner in the Battle of Dunbar against the English in 1650 and shipped to New England as an indentured servant.
Found the WASP thing in the original thread:
OOOH!, this is so, so, so, very important. I'd sure hate for Mr Curt Springer to accuse me of being "WASPish". What, *ME*?, "waspish"???…Just because I was baptized at the big white(Protestant) church at the head of the Square???…(Actually, my paternal name traces back to *FRANCE*, pre-1066, CE,…)As for Mr Lindsey Magoo, he's a doofus. Idiot. He claimed to be "afraid" of me, but couldn't – and wouldn't explain why. All he would say was "I heard some things.", but he refused to say *WHAT* he heard, let alone where/who, etc. Did you hear about his plan for a "State… Read more »
So Elkheart are you a Congo too?
As I understand it, Mr. Carroll intends to "possess" marijuana in public. He stated that he has no intention of selling or smoking it. I would suggest that he makes no statement regarding how he obtained it. This would limit any charges to "possession" without complicating the issue with "purchasing."
I wonder if there is any U.S. locality that has taken the additional measure of criminalizing "intention to possess." "Oh what a tangled web we weave…"
Good luck, Andrew!
I believe that as a general principle of law you can "intend" to violate a law without committing an offense, and you can state that publicly. You cross a line if you attempt to carry out the offense, successful or not, if you conspire with others to carry out the offense, even if no action or communication is a violation of law in and of itself, or if you induce or exhort others to violate law on your behalf.
