Keene’s Bitcoin Vending Machine
In April of 2015, the Keene machine was upgraded to the Lamassu brand Bitcoin Vending Machine. Lamassu is based in the Shire and run by Free State Project early movers. The original unit, the Skyhook brand, is used for special events.
Now, I’m happy to announce we have passed the one year mark of having a publicly-accessible BVM operating in Keene!
Our customers range from young to old from all across the Northeast, because sadly, the Keene BVM is the only publicly accessible BVM (or ATM) in all of ME, NH, VT, MA, CT, RI, and Upstate NY. New York, the Empire State, has cracked down on the bitcoin industry there, resulting Albany and Buffalo losing their machines in 2015 and for some reason all the units listed on the Coin ATM Radar site for Boston are shut off or gone (at least that’s what the customers who drive to Keene from Boston have told us.) Hopefully this will change, as not everyone is willing to drive for hours to purchase bitcoin.
It’s important to note that the Keene Bitcoin Vending Machine is not an ATM, though many confuse the two terms. The machine vends bitcoins for cash. It does not do the reverse. The machine is stocked with bitcoin (click to see our wallet’s status and all transactions) and sells from that stock. The BVM is not making buys on an exchange. Machines that do that have ridiculous identification requirements. Your bitcoin is your business and as a customer of the church, your privacy is respected. (While our machine does not require identification, there are security cameras monitoring the store premises.)
Come on out to the store and try the machine at 661 Marlboro Street (Route 101) in Keene, six days per week. Hours are Tuesday – Saturday 10a-6p and Sunday 11a-5p.

Gavin Andresen, Bitcoin’s Head Developer
When the anonymous “Satoshi Nakamoto” released Bitcoin to the world, Satoshi chose a successor as the “core maintainer”, aka chief developer of the open source, decentralized, non-governmental internet money. Gavin Andresen was Satoshi’s pick.
I’m excited to announce that Keenevention’s Bitcoin Panel will feature Gavin Andresen this year! Yes, the rules are being bent to allow Gavin to speak at Keenevention, as he’s not currently living in New Hampshire, but instead in nearby Amherst, MA.
It’s a very important time for the Bitcoin Panel, as the bitcoin community is currently divided over a possible “fork” in the bitcoin programming. Gavin and another core developer are currently debating with three other core bitcoin developers over the future of how bitcoin will (or won’t) scale up to meet an ever-increasing market. The debate is heated, and now the decision on the future of bitcoin is in the hands of its miners. Can Gavin and his supporters sway the miners to make the switch to his new software, BitcoinXT?
Keenevention’s Bitcoin Panel is taking place in the midst of this strife within the bitcoin community. If you have questions for Gavin, Keenevention 2015 is a perfect opportunity to ask them on-stage or off.

Due to Keenevention hitting an arbitrary limit with our bitcoin payment provider, Bitpay, bitcoin ticketing was down for a few days. Bitpay lifted the account limitation today, so I have restored the bitcoin options to the Tickets page. Keenevention is this October 31st through November 1st in Keene. Bitcoiners Love NH
To be clear, according to the NY state gang’s own website, businesses who accept bitcoin for payment for product and service do not need to get a bitlicense, but if customers can’t get bitcoin because NY has made it insanely difficult to buy and sell bitcoin, what good is it to accept them?
New York is doing their best to strangle the nascent bitcoin marketplace before it gets out of the cradle. Now only the most obedient and wealthy companies will be able to buy and sell bitcoin in New York. It’s protectionism all the way, and it’s likely not going to get any better for the little guy.
In contrast, New Hampshire has somme of the biggest bitcoiners in the world that are participants in the Free State Project and have moved or will be moving here once the project reaches its goal of 20,000. The FSP even put up a special page on their website touting some of the reasons why New Hampshire is a destination for the bitcoin and liberty-loving community.

No one should really be surprised about the bitcoin crackdown in New York. They call it the Empire State for a reason. The Mercatus Center annual study on the freedom of the fifty states continues to rank New York at #50, below the awful California at #49.
