When hearing stories about how high tensions have risen in Keene regarding activist adventures, one ponders the many indicators of derision. There’s the fear and hate mongering at STOP FREE KEENE!!!, which when boiling over to violent rhetoric or threats thereof, occasionally gets censored. Then there’s the realistic incidents of actual violence in Keene’s streets regarding activist related activities. Two violent clashes on consecutive evenings tangentially related to Central Square chalkings led to one person’s hospitalization and earned another a felony charge. It would be nice to believe that the xenophobic posturing that has been aimed at individuals were to have reached its climax long ago, but judging by a shouting match in the streets of an otherwise quiet suburban neighborhood, it seems there are those who are making it their life’s effort to embody the forces of antagonism.
This synthesis of negative energy came together after recent re-mover to Keene Christopher Cantwell decided to have a word with neighbor Matthew (more…)

Of the seven races they were watching, four were wins for the liberty activists, including two democrat incumbents, Tim O’Flaherty and Michael Garcia. In his race for Manchester state rep for Wards 4-7, incumbent democrat Tim O’Flaherty received a solid third place out of five contenders. The first and second placed opponents only got 26% each compared to O’Flaherty’s 24%. O’Flaherty says that local haters spent a fair amount of money to mail flyers to all registered dems, promoting three other candidates. However, O’Flaherty says that what happened to him was nothing compared to the all-out-attack on Michael Garcia.
Michael Garcia (no relation to US Senate candidate Marilinda Garcia) is a Keeniac-moved-to-Nashua, who, like O’Flaherty won his state rep seat originally in 2012 in Nashua’s Ward 7. Local haters were caught by surprise in 2012 and this year mobilized against him with large signs calling the democrat liberty activist who moved several years ago from Florida, a “phony”. Plus, they were distributing an attack flier at the polling site. Despite the desperate push against him, Garcia prevailed, beating the last place contender by 30 votes. Garcia received 16% putting him in third place out of four, with the fourth place person receiving 12%.
The other races that Miscellany Blue were watching included Elizabeth Edwards who received a solid first place finish in Manchester’s Ward 4! She scored 41% of the vote compared to the second place finisher’s 34%. Manchester’s Amanda Bouldin (the founder of Shire Sharing) also made it through in a close race for state rep in Ward 5 where she finished second with 25% – the runner-up had 22%.
In Keene, despite valiant efforts, James “Robin Hood” Cleaveland lost his race for state rep to political newcomer William Pearson, who in a Keene Sentinel interview claimed to be a “real democrat”, whatever that means. Pearson received 102 votes in Keene’s Ward 1 compared to Cleaveland’s 30 votes (23%). The good news out of this race is that turnout in Ward 1 was down from 9% in 2012 to 7% in 2014, meaning that either Cleaveland’s opposition did nothing to try to stop him, or if they did, any efforts they made to try to turn out the vote were total failures. A couple of letters to the editor appeared in local papers in NH recently. One was a love letter by Paul Mirski of Enfield that appeared in the Concord Monitor. Mirski praises Free State Project participants as part of New Hampshire’s tradition.
Here’s a hate letter by Ed Lake of Ashuelot that appeared in the Keene Sentinel. Lake claims to be a lover, but yet admits to hating and focuses his letter on his hatred of Free Keene and the Free State Project, likening us to terrorists. Confusingly, Lake claims:
I love my state and do not wish to see some outside force take it away from me, my family or my neighbors.
When Lake says he loves his state, what does he mean by “state”? Is he talking about the geographic area known as New Hampshire? The mountains, lakes, and trees? The wonderful, friendly people of the Shire? If so, he needn’t fear – no Free State Project participant I know of wants to take his land and friends away. Liberty-minded people tend to be very respectful of property rights and the rights of others.
Perhaps by “state”, he’s talking about the criminal organization of men and women whose very existence and legitimacy is threatened by the FSP. If it is the violent monopoly “state” that he means, then he will continue to be more frustrated over time as more people move here. It is the monopoly, criminal “state” that will be gone someday, left in the dustbin of history, just like chattel slavery.
Regardless of Lake’s actual meaning, these letters again prove the relevance of the Free State Project. FSP participants are having an impact and cannot be ignored. Come join us in the Shire sooner rather than later and help us achieve more liberty in our lifetime!
