The focus of his interviews is the ban on some liquor store protestors who sang inside a now defunct Concord store on one occasion, and numerous times outside of others. Meanwhile, the liquor commission is currently under threat of restructuring after a state house panel found the commission in violation of a prohibition on contracting lobbyists. If 22 national petitions filed on Whitehouse.gov, and an article today in the Concord Monitor are any indicator, discussion of the concept of secession is spreading rapidly through the minds of many in the United States. The Examiner reports that as of Monday, 22 states have a number of people circulating petitions for recognition of potential independence on the White House’s official petitioning website. While these numbers are currently in the hundreds and low thousands, the recognition of the legitimacy of the concept seems to be reaching a high water mark, and could continue swelling.
Ben Leubsdorf has penned two article’s in today’s Monitor about individuals making major movement with their feet, both into and out of New Hampshire. He reports on the expatriation of Frank Szabo, the controversial candidate for sheriff of Hillsborough County. Szabo announced early in his candidacy for the republican nomination that he had interest in protecting the sovereignty of New Hampshire from unconstitutional federal law enforcement actions. His campaign crashed and burned when he advocated enforcing non-existent laws against abortion seekers and providers. He announced Sunday on his facebook page that he had recently relocated to South America, where he plans to enjoy the remainder of his days. Currently in Chile, he states that he hopes to see extended family and friends in the future, though that may require that they voyage to visit him. He also announced in his facebook post that the IRS has seized $36,000 from him. (more…)
Liberty activists handing out quarter-page fliers advocating for libertarian candidates Ian Freeman and Darryl Perry were targeted in a sneaky manner by election officials. When voters would enter the building the poll workers would tell them it was illegal for them to have the flyer and then snatch it from them and throw it away. Hearing this from an exiting voter, I investigated and found the claim to be true.

Despite the “Department of Justice” sending an agent down to ostensibly correct the Ward 4 staff, the behavior continued later, as we also documented. The clueless ward moderator claimed she was too busy to properly educate her volunteer “greeters” (enforcers) on the law, which she herself did not know.
As a result, countless voters had their rights oppressed by officious bureaucrats who made the law up on the spot. We documented and called them on it and the behavior continued. Apparently they were pulling out all the stops to prevent the libertarians from getting as many votes as possible.
The DOJ is aware of this situation but don’t expect any actual consequences to come to these government workers. Odds are they’ll be back at it next time, too.
The other day while reading the Union Leader I came across an article where HCDC Superintendent David Dionne decided to speak negatively against Cheshire County Corrections Superintendent Richard Van Wickler:
““It’s a slap in the face to the corrections profession,” said David Dionne” of Superintendent Van Wickler’s decision to hire a convicted felon as a Corrections Officer.
Having personally known people who have been employed and incarcerated under both Superintendents, I can tell you this: Hillsboro County could easily relinquish its position as the most frequently sued New Hampshire county correctional facility if they got an administrator of Superintendent Van Wickler’s quality.
I’ve recently asked Keene-based liberty activists who have served sentences under Corporal Schoolcraft what they think of him as an individual. I am completely confident in telling you this: the man sounds like a complete professional. Superintendent Dionne has many officers that I’ve recently heard the polar opposite of.
Until I stop hearing such first hand negative accounts (and reading case after case filed in the US District Court of New Hampshire, the last one not even filed two weeks ago) regarding mistreatment of his prisoners, I think Superintendent Dionne should refrain from casting any judgement whatsoever on colleagues who are provably far more professional.
I’ve never heard CCDC being a candidate for a federal consent decree either.
If there’s ever a time to get political, they tell us that this is it. The 2012 imperial, state, and local elections will be held this coming Tuesday, and with them a new era of egomania.
The most overhyped and least important race to the individual voter should be the US presidential election. The individual has the least amount of sway in that race, and change is never more than a hope for the corrupt charmers who accept the deals necessary to privilege oneself to either of the duopoly party’s factions. By his actions more than his words, the first term of Barack Obama shall be judged. And by considering his active advancement of the military industry, both abroad and domestically through the militarization of police, the dear leader is revealed as a shapeshifter whose original, charming facade of representing peace has faded. Today in Concord, Barack revved the crowd to reminders of his ordered hit on Osama Bin Laden, and generally dodged all foreign policy, incorrectly claiming to have ended the war in Iraq, and citing plans just over the horizon to end conflict in Afghanistan.
Though I digress, because the presidential election is not actually about Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. The election is about who the individual voter feels is the most principled and prepared person to undertake the tasks of the almighty office of the US president. An article in the Washington Post that has been widely syndicated discusses how the collection of evidence by the use of drug detector dogs will be considered by the united states supreme court. Two cases are pending on the docket, both from Florida, which question the effectiveness as well as the constitutionality of canines for drug detection use. The article cites studies from the University of California at Davis in which 18 police canine teams were sent through a facility and tasked with finding hidden drugs. Though there were no drugs in the facility, 17 of the teams reported alerts. Barry Cooper, former police officer and producer of the Never Get Busted educational film series has discussed his own manipulation of police canines while he was working as one of the most successful narcotics interdiction detectives. Anyone who has owned a dog knows that their life revolves around serving their pack leader. There are no objective standards or testing done of the animals to demonstrate their effectiveness. In a 2005 case, former supreme court judge David Souter stated that the infallible dog “is a creation of legal fiction”.
Last year, the Florida supreme court had thrown out a case from 2006 which featured questionable probable cause for a search after a police dog sniffed and acted playfully. Judge Barbara Pariente wrote: (more…)
