New Vermont Commons

The “mud season” issue of Vermont Commons, the very cool left-wing secessionist journal, has been released.

Some highlights:

An interview with former Green party presidential candidate David Cobb, regarding his recent work with MoveToAmend.org and corporate rights.

(Michael Badnarik, former Libertarian presidential candidate and Free State Project member participant – though not yet in New Hampshire – was arrested with Cobb when they jointly engaged in civil disobedience at a presidential debate in 2004, crossing a police line while attempting to serve an order to show cause to the Commission on Presidential Debates. “These are not debates, these are infomercials,” Cobb said. First Ever Jury Trial of a “Free Stater”? Monday Morning.

Jim JohnsonThis Monday morning, 3/7, Jim Johnson, one of the “Trespassive Twelve” arrested at the Cheshire jail last year will be facing a jury trial, with jury selection beginning at 9am.

This may be the first jury trial of a “free stater” thus far in New Hampshire, and more are expected this year. It also appears to be the first trial that Cheshire county has held in months, due to the unfortunate plea bargain process that encourages people, through intimidation, to take a guilty plea for a reduced sentence. The state agents never have to prove their case, which is frequently full of holes, and people are forced to pay hundreds of dollars in fines. That’s no easy task anytime, let alone in a down economy.

Activists will be out early at the court to perform jury nullification outreach, informing potential jurors that they have the right to vote their conscience, not just whether the government’s statutes were violated.

Here’s a facebook event with the details. See you there!

The Science of HIV/AIDS

We’ll be discussing House of Numbers on the next Prometheus Unchained. It’s available for instant streaming to Netflix users. I highly recommend you watch it. I’m not such a big fan of the trailer which seems hyperbolic at times and I can imagine it actually turning someone off to watching the movie, but here it is. I’m hoping this will lead to a productive discussion about people’s perceptions of HIV and AIDS versus what’s actually known. Maybe some people who watch it will have answers that will dispel certain misconceptions that may be created by the movie.

Free State Project Nascar Video

The past week or so supporters of the Free State Project (FSP) have been voting (yes, we do vote – voluntarily) for the FSP design, by Adam Sloan, in hopes that the car would one day be seen by millions on the Nascar’s national stage. Just yesterday the FSP car took the lead in votes, though this is only one of five steps to winning the contest, which means we still have work to do.

So if you have a few moments today (tomorrow and/or the next day), please, vote and/or share this video. Thanks again to all those working hard to make this possible and to Pete Eyre for making this catchy video.
