Revoking my Libertarian Party “Life Membership”, a.k.a. Politics Sucks!

The Libertarian Party (LP) had, after the late, great Harry Browne‘s campaigns, been falling further and further from it’s original principles. In the early portion of this decade, when the LP removed from the party platform their calls for the abolishment of the CIA and FBI, I wrote their newspaper to say I’d not send them another dime of money until they got back to their founding principle: the non-initiation of force.

As I drifted away from the LP and politics and toward market-based action, I paid less and less attention to the LP. I even said on the air recently on “Free Talk Live“, my talk show, that the only reason I was still a member is because I bought a life membership and it hadn’t been worth my while to cancel it. New Hampshire Primary Officially Set For Jan 8

“Secretary of State Bill Gardner has just announced that the first in the nation primary will be held on Jan. 8.”

I would, of course, encourage supporters to continue spreading the message of Ron Paul through road signs, pamplets, business cards, etc. We should gather interest on people willing to hold signs outside of polling locations in Keene.

Barack Obama Scheduled For Keene

WKBK in Keene reported that Presidential Candidate Barack Obama is scheduled to make an appearance in Keene on Friday (3-16) as part of a New Hampshire campaign visit also including Concord. He’ll be at Keene High School for a 7:00pm event. Obama’s appearance will be covered by Keene’s Cheshire TV on channel 8. FreeKeene’s Free Minds TV will be live at 9:00pm the same night which could be a huge draw for new viewers stuck in the two party political quandary.

100 hours and the first disappointment

So the Democrats sweep into office, most of them not smart enought to know that a good chunk of those votes weren’t FOR them, but AGAINST Bush, the Patriot Act, the war, runaway spending, tax cuts for the super-rich and other foot-on-a-banana peel moves by the Republicans. Then comes this list of “100 hour promises” by Speaker Pelosi, who must have learned about the political process from the Governor Moonbeam School of Populism. Raise the minimum wage? Please. Who makes $5.15 an hour? Even the much-vilified Wal-Mart’s starting wage is $7.50 an hour in Manchester. Ethics reform? Right. Eliminate travel on corporate jets? Fine, but no rule against first-class commercial travel is there? I’ve seen Swiss cheese with fewer holes than this “reform”. The Democrats have chosen to pick the lowest-hanging fruit to mollify an angry electorate into thinking they’ve done something. They promise a 5 day work week-and the VERY FIRST DAY they take off for (wait for it) a COLLEGE FOOTBALL GAME! Evidently the terms “first 100 hours” and “5 day week” have different meanings inside the Beltway than the rest of the country. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
