Ian Freeman recently had a “residency” case dropped by the City of Keene. Whether or not this case comes back in one form or another is yet to be seen. However, The New Hampshire Supreme Court may end up deciding the residency issue before the City of Keene (or DMV) decides whether or not to pursue additional actions against Mr. Freeman.
The Fosters Daily Democrat reports, “A trial is tentatively set for February 2014 to decide whether New Hampshire will be allowed to use controversial language on its voter registration forms that was previously blocked by a judge.”
The case is Rivers, et. al. v State of New Hampsire. A temporary injunction was issued by Strafford County Superior Court Judge John Lewis preventing the state from using new voter registration forms that included a paragraph discussing motor vehicle and residency requirements. Lewis wrote the new wording was an “inaccurate and confusing expression of the law” that “does not pass constitutional muster.”
The lawsuit was brought forth by the League of Women Voters of New Hampshire and four students represented by the New Hampshire Civil Liberties Union.
Adam Kokesh called for a “Final American Revolution” where people were to gather at each state capitol and demand secession. This is video from Concord, NH where a man strapped with an AK-47 gave a speech written by Kokesh into a megaphone:
The events nationwide suffered from poor planning, in that Kokesh basically announced the events, created them on Facebook, and then expected others to pick up the ball. They didn’t. One photo from Albany showed two people attending. Concord got 22 without any real organization whatsoever. The poor turnout at the event nationwide speaks to the small number of liberty-loving people willing to take action. It’s a perfect example of why liberty-oriented people need to converge in one place and get active TOGETHER. That place is New Hampshire – the choice of the Free State Project. Concentrating activism works – we already have over 1100 activists here statewide as part of the FSP and have won dozens of elections, repealed bad laws, done epic civil disobedience, and are creating loads of liberty media. Please join the thousands of liberty activists moving to New Hampshire and join the Free State Project!
First, the Concord Monitor tells the story of Joe Hamel, who recorded a Concord city bureaucrat and had his home searched by police, was charged with “wiretapping” and eventually had the charges dropped. The story also features quotes from heroic first amendment attorney Jon Meyer. Then, they editorialize in favor of the police no longer arresting people for recording government workers. Both articles are very good.
The series of videos from Dave Ridley that show the ridiculous and rude behavior of some pro-welfare protest organizers continues. This time the police are called in, but the cop does the right thing and leaves the counter protesters alone:
Matt Simon has the story at the Concord Patch about how the supposedly medical cannabis-friendly governor Maggie Hassan demanded the medical bill be gutted. He discusses the awful provisions in the bill and then what happens next as it goes back to the house:
As the “therapeutic use of cannabis” bill (a.k.a. the medical marijuana bill) heads back to the House of Representatives after being gutted by the Senate, many state representatives, patients, and medical professionals have been contacting me, all asking the same question: “What the heck happened?!?!” (more…)
