Robin Hood and the Merry People are pleased to announce a very special public event to be held on Central Square on Friday, 09 May 2014. To commemorate the first year anniversary of service of the lawsuit by the city of Keene against Robin Hood and friends, a free barbeque for the people will kick off at 5:00pm, just as the hours of parking enforcement conclude for the day. All peaceful people are invited to take part in this event and are free to bring along food and drink to share, or simply bring one’s own smile and share in the good company of others.
The people’s BBQ will be a great opportunity to meet Robin Hooders and other activists in the Keene area, and to voice one’s own ideas for how to make our community’s activities more effective. Beef tacos and bottled water will be available for all, as well as a vegan option to be determined. For more information, check out the event on Robin Hood of Keene’s facebook page.
The latest episode of the Rebel Love Show featured Free Keene blogger extraordinaire JJ Epic, reminiscing about his years in the Shire, and about his impending departure to see family and travel the world.
Kudos to downtown business owner Peggy Schauffler for speaking up against the parking enforcement in Keene in her recent letter to the editor to the Keene Sentinel. In the letter she describes the constant negative feedback she receives from customers regarding Keene’s parking enforcement. She indicates that people tell her they are less likely to shop downtown due to the parking enforcement and she herself says she refused to shop downtown prior to starting a business there!
If the city council wanted to do something good for the downtown, they should eliminate the parking department entirely and let business and downtown property owners decide for themselves how to handle parking. Of course, don’t expect a single city councilor to put that idea on the table. If we’re lucky, they’ll stop the proposed increase, but that won’t bring people back downtown who refuse to shop there TODAY.
Here’s Peggy’s letter:
“I hate coming to Keene!” I looked up as a customer walked through the door.
I said, knowing the root of the problem, “What’s the problem?”
They replied “I have never been in a city before where the meter people are so unfriendly.”
Conversations on meter readers is a continual topic in my store, and I have yet to hear one that is pleasant. (more…)

Out with the old, in with the new! Thanks to the help of graphic design wizard Meg McLain, NHJury.com has a brand new trifold for outreach to potential jurors and others who want to learn about the right of jury nullification!
5,000 new fliers have been printed and will be filtering to activists statewide this summer (after we run dry of the original 2011 flier).
The new version features updated text that reflects the passage of the NH Jury Nullification law in 2012 as well as a more current quote from a judge about nullification among other minor tweaks and a complete graphical redesign!
On April 20th at 4:20 pm activists from Keene, Manchester and the rest of the state converged on the State House in Concord New Hampshire. State Representatives Mark Warden and Mike Sylvia were also in attendance. There were also dozens of people there that are not Free Staters. Considering this was also Easter Sunday, there was a good turn out. The purpose of the event was to act in civil disobedience to the law regarding marijuana. Even though marijuana is legal in Colorado and Washington, it is not yet legal in New Hampshire and is still regarded as contraband. It is time for prohibition to end so that peaceful people can be left alone. Hopefully in the near future people like the organizer of the event Rich Paul will not see the inside of a cage again for simply selling or possessing a plant.
Until recently, NHJury.com, a site dedicated to helping jurors understand they have the right to judge the law itself, had suffered from a lack of updates to the site’s blog. I’ve now taken over managing the site and hope to bring more content here over time by adding more NH jury activists as bloggers. There has recently been a resurgence of jury outreach in Manchester. It would be great to have outreach happening regularly in all ten counties of NH. (Grafton and Cheshire counties have had consistent jury outreach for several years.) Want to help? Join our group on facebook and step up!
Some immediate changes to the site include some graphical tweaks, updates, and the addition of a Contact Us page. You can reach NHJury.com activists statewide via the contact form here or this email address: nhjury at googlegroups.com.
