Gun Freedom Rally – Concord, NH

On Saturday January 19, people gathered at the 50 different State Houses in support of the right to bear arms in a group of events called “Guns Across America.” The organizers described the rally as “a PEACEFUL demonstration.” And wrote “We encourage everyone to bring pro gun and pro 2nd amendment signs. Open carry is permitted and encouraged. Any rifles MUST be unloaded with bolt open. Please note if you do carry, you do so of your own discretion. In addition, please act responsibly. The liberal media has made those against more gun legislation out to be mentally unstable or radicals. Actions speak louder than words, we are here not only to contest such legislation, but to contest such claims made against us. SPREAD THE WORD and make YOUR voice count!” (more…)

Face-to-Face With the School Board

The Keene Sentinel reported on Tuesday’s School Board’s public hearing on the proposed budget for 2013-2014. Steve Gilbert reports that twenty-six people spoke, twenty-four of them — mostly teachers and parents — argued against proposed staff cuts of $1.45 million in next year’s budget.

NH Judicial System Officially Recognizes Free Keene as News Media

Last month the NH Supreme Court announced a new registration process making recording court hearings a little easier for people who take the time to register as news media. Basically, the new process is once your registration is approved, one need only show a copy of the approved registration form to a court security officer to gain access to recording hearings, rather than having to fill out a form at the clerk’s window on each visit. According to the registration guidelines, in order to qualify as “news media” an organization must meet certain criteria:

News media are defined as established organizations, or individuals, that regularly gather, report, edit, broadcast and publish news or matters of public interest, either in print or electronically. The definition of “news media” includes Internet-based “new media” that regularly update content. The definition does not include personal websites. It is the responsibility of online organizations to demonstrate that they meet the definition of “new media.”

Free Keene has met the criteria and is now listed as a “Registered News Organization” on the court’s website along with the AP, WMUR, and various newspapers.
