I’m getting close to the beginning of the Exile, but first a visit to the Shire!!

Well, I’ve got my route planned out for the Post-Jail Pre-Exile Tour! I’ll be leaving on a MegaBus from Philadelphia around 1pm Sunday afternoon (Aug 12) and arriving in Boston at 8:30pm. From there I will take the Boston Express bus from South Station in Boston to exit 5 in Londonderry, NH, where I will be picked up by Dale Everett of Flaming Freedom and be brought to the Anarchy In Your Head Studios. There I will sleep in preparation for the next day’s “Circus” (Ademo’s trial). (more…)
Local luddites are up-in-arms over a proposal from Verizon to place a tower on Beech Hill, which according to the Keene Sentinel’s story, is the highest elevation in the immediate area. It’s the same place where Time Warner has their head-end.
The arguments against the tower amount to, “we like our hill to be all green”. The detractors hold a ridiculously anti-technology position that will put roadblocks in the way of future connectivity for the area. (Read: likely the near-future availability of 4G service in Keene.)
We’re in the 21st century. Radio is a hundred-year-old technology. Towers already exist, and they make our lives better. More communication leads to more safety and productivity. They are a symbol of progress and important to the economic success of a geographic area.
The city council should allow Verizon to build their tower (which would be constructed to even look somewhat like a tree, as in the picture and likely be rented to various other radio services, beyond just cellular service) and go even further and repeal their tower regulations entirely. Let the market decide these matters – not luddites and politicians.
Today (Aug 7, 2012) I called the Keene Police Department to check the status of my Concealed Carry License application. I applied for the license on July 20. It’s my understanding that NH law requires that the local police department “shall-issue” all valid applicants within 14 days (10 business days) of applying. Applicants must call and ask for an answer–they will not call you. However, if a person has NOT been approved, they will mail that person with an explanation as to why they were denied, and they must do that within 14 days. The clerk (Pat) at the records department said that my application was not in the “approved” pile, and that the man in charge of applications (Michael Goodchild) was on vacation until Aug. 20. She gave me his voicemail, and I left a message. In his voicemail recording, he directs callers to contact Jim McLaughlin with any issues. When I phoned Jim McLaughlin and told him I was audio recording, he told me he did not consent to being recorded and redirected my call to Michael Goodchild’s voicemail again. The third time I called, I explained to the clerk what had happened and asked to speak with someone who would talk to me on the record. After waiting on hold for a few minutes, Pat returned and said that the “Chief of Police” Ken Meola told her that “Captain” Costa would call me back today regarding this issue. Very curious…
Though Ademo, donning his blue jail jumpsuit, wasn’t able to speak with those present, he did turn and give a big smile. He’s in good spirits.
After less than an hour, 15 individuals had been screened as jurors or alternates. Ademo’s trial is slated to begin next Monday, August 13th. Supporters will be outside at 8am and the “circus”, as Ademo’s called it, will begin at 9am.

Prior to the activity inside the courtroom, a couple dozen friends of Ademo friends gathered outside both as a show of support and to hand information about jury nullification to potential jurors. While some coldly passed without acknowledging the presence of a friendly human being, many were receptive. Or at least they knew they might have a lot of down-time and realized that having some literature to read wouldn’t be all-bad.

Ademo Freeman of CopBlock.org faces 21 years in prison for recording conversations with government bureaucrats. This is raw video of his jury selection (minus any portions that might identify potential jurors). More on this case at http://copblock.org/freeademo
The trial starts Monday morning, 8/13, 10am at Manchester “superior” court.
