At the 2010 Porcupine Freedom Festival it was revealed and signed by many. Now the Shire Society Declaration can be signed online, or you can print one out and sign it in real life. Visit ShireSociety.com to read it and if you like, sign!
On today’s Planet Money, we travel to a place where people are trying to live without government interference. A place where you can use bits of silver to buy uninspected bacon. A place where a 9-year-old will sell you alcohol.
It’s the 2011 Porcupine Freedom Festival, known to its friends as PorcFest. It’s the summer festival for people who think we should return to the gold standard and abolish the IRS.
The fourth day in July, also known as “Independence Day,” is commonly celebrated with a gathering of friends and family, a cookout, and fireworks. It is a ‘federal holiday’ meant to commemorate the Declaration of Independence, where the thirteen “American colonies” declared independence from the “Kingdom of Great Britain.” On July 4th I do not celebrate the Declaration of Independence specifically or ‘America’s birthday,’ but I do celebrate Independence Day. Independence Day is not solely on July 4th though, it is every day.
I celebrate being independent from the “United States” and any other party who may claim to have authority over me. Unfortunately, living in the geographical region declared the “United States,” I will still be aggressed upon by the “government” claiming to have jurisdiction in the area. Although I am susceptible to being victimized by individuals working as part of the “government,” I am independent from the hallucination that they have the authority to control and regulate other people’s lives.
Today, and every day, I celebrate living freely, being an independent thinker, and being a peaceful individual who will not commit acts of violence against another. I celebrate personal responsibility and self-ownership. Will you allow others to control the way you live your life, whether it be government at any level, a law enforcement officer, or even a spouse? Today, I will be celebrating my true independence. Will you?
On Monday 6/27, the day after Porcfest 2011, there were two trials of liberty activists scheduled in Keene district court. Rich Angell for driving without a government license and Rich Paul for trespassing at the jail when he tried to bail someone out. You’ll see another angle of Beau’s arrest for wearing a hat as well. Rich Angell was found guilty and plans to appeal, while in Rich Paul’s case, the robed man, Edward Burke had to recuse himself and the trial will likely be rescheduled with a different robed man.
It’s that time of year again…The Hundred Nights Shelter is having a tent drive Saturday, July 9th from 1-6pm. Not only are they collecting things such as tents, sleeping bags, paper towels, duct tape, flashlights, BOTTLED WATER, foot powder, and toilet paper, but throughout the day there will also be many activities. Activities for all ages like face painting; followed by an open mic evening!
I do hope to see our readers down there next Saturday donating to a very worthy cause. This non-government-run shelter relies on donations and fundraisers alone to operate. Even the director and CEO are volunteer positions. Let’s all lend a hand to the hundreds of homeless people, families and children in Keene!
